About The Position

The Technician 1, HVAC/Refrigeration is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems/equipment. This role ensures these systems meet the stringent requirements of pharmaceutical manufacturing and storage environments. Additionally, this role is responsible for conducting regular inspections and preventative maintenance on HVAC/R systems to ensure they are operating within the required specifications.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • 1+ years of experience in HVAC maintenance.
  • Completion of apprenticeship program or vocational training in HVAC.
  • Universal Refrigerant Recovery Certification (EPA 608 Certification).
  • Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and building automation systems.
  • Effective communication, both written and oral.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of Fume Hoods, Laminar flow hoods, and biosafety cabinets.
  • Must be able to support 24/7 manufacturing facility, including shift, on-call, and weekends.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in mechanical, electrical, applied engineering, or another relevant field.
  • Prior experience in HVAC maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Performs basic routine and preventative maintenance of the site’s heating, ventilation, air condition, and refrigeration systems and equipment with moderate supervision.
  • Reports complex HVAC issues to senior technicians or management.
  • Assists in overseeing the installation of equipment, as required.
  • Assists in providing recommendations to develop maintenance and repair plans for HVAC systems and equipment, including cold rooms.
  • Follows all safety protocols and guidelines.
  • Supports certification of HEPA filters.
  • Assists with work adhering to system air balancing activities.
  • Assists HVAC department technicians to qualify and maintain production ventilation and equipment.
  • Interacts with vendors and other departments.
  • Works with Building Management Systems (BMS) monitoring program and assists with reviewing specific data relating to HVAC systems.
  • Completes specialized training programs for HVAC systems.
  • Supports site operations and emergency work orders during off-hours, as needed.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.
