About The Position

The Level 3 Technical Writer (TW) shall possess the capability to assist in preparing and maintaining operations documentation, user guides, manuals, and technical publications. This role involves understanding basic grammar concepts and writing technical copy for various types of documents. The Technical Writer will gather technical information, prepare written text, and maintain a current internal documentation library using multiple word processing and presentation tools such as MS Word, PowerPoint, and Visio. They will work with developers to produce quality documentation and training materials, engaging in all phases of documentation. The role requires understanding basic concepts and writing technical copy for documents related to programs/projects of similar complexity, preparing reports, responses, and briefings for diverse audiences, and coordinating document layout and design. The Technical Writer will research highly technical subject matter, organize information from multiple sources, and express technical information comprehensibly. Under general direction, they will write technical copy for documents of similar complexity, applying concepts based on engineering drawings, technical information, consultations with subject matter experts, and other available sources. The role involves producing defense acquisition documentation, user manuals, training manuals, and other documentation for DoD electronic equipment and systems, interpreting engineering and maintenance drawings, and producing technical documentation for Cryptologic programs or projects, including developing analytic tradecraft methodologies. The Technical Writer will apply the technical manual standard NSA DS-89 to work products, provide expert oversight of technical writing and editing for all phases of acquisition and technical documentation, and work independently on highly complex systems, programming, and operations documentation. They may act as a project leader for complex documentation projects and review the work products of others for compliance with the technical manual NSA Data Standard (DS)-89.

Requirements

  • Eight (8) years of experience as a TW in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university is required.
  • A Master’s degree may be substituted for two (2) years of experience, reducing the requirement to six (6) years of experience.
  • Four (4) years of additional TW experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree.
  • Active TS/SCI security clearance with a current polygraph is required
