About The Position

The Technical Writing Consultant plays a key role in shaping how teams communicate complex information—governing technical content, developing high‑quality materials, and ensuring alignment with organizational standards and messaging. In this role, you will report to the the Sr Lead of Technical Writing. This is a hybrid position and involves regular performance of job responsibilities virtually as well as in-person at an assigned TU office location for a minimum of two days a week.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in technical communications, technical writing, journalism, or a related field.
  • Excellent writing, verbal, and organizational skills.
  • Advanced experience with and application of technical communication tools.
  • Current toolset includes Microsoft Office, SharePoint, MadCap Flare, Articulate 360, Adobe Acrobat, SnagIt, and Confluence.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in fast-paced environments with changing priorities.
  • Attentive to detail, customer feedback, and team dynamics.
  • Ability to evolve and grow skills by learning new processes, products, and tools.
  • Ability to communicate and build relationships with individuals at all levels including senior management.
  • Ability to collaborate with customers and find creative solutions for their needs.

Responsibilities

  • Write, edit, and format complex technical content—including user guides, reference materials, policies, procedures, online help, presentations, forms, and eLearning materials—to meet corporate standards and audience needs.
  • Conduct audience and task analyses to tailor deliverables effectively.
  • Research, analyze, and document processes, tools, applications, and regulatory information to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Create graphical technical content that enhances clarity and usability.
  • Support or lead governance of technical communications across the organization.
  • Maintain communication standards, style guides, and templates.
  • Review materials to ensure alignment with branding, organizational messaging, and stylistic requirements.
  • Train associates on documentation standards, templates, and best practices.
  • Lead and manage projects while contributing to improvements in team processes.
  • Develop project plans for complex initiatives, communicating progress and risks to stakeholders.
  • Facilitate meetings and interviews with SMEs, team members, and customers to gather information.
  • Assist internal teams in diagnosing business needs and translating them into clear, effective technical communications.
  • Partner with internal teams across the organization to support creation, standardization, and governance of their technical content.
  • Provide peer editing support and help define or refine writing standards.
  • Mentor junior writers or team members in tools, templates, and communication practices.
