About The Position

The Level 3 Technical Writer (TW) shall possess the capabilities to assist in preparing and maintaining operations documentation, user guides, manuals, and technical publications. This role involves understanding basic grammar and writing technical copy for various types of documents. The Technical Writer will gather technical information, prepare written text, and maintain a current internal documentation library using multiple word processing and presentation tools such as MS Word, PowerPoint, and Visio. They will work with developers to produce quality documentation and training materials, and be involved in all phases of documentation. The position requires understanding basic concepts and writing technical copy for documents related to programs/projects of similar complexity, preparing reports, responses, and briefings for diverse audiences, and coordinating document layout and design. The role also involves researching highly technical subject matter, organizing information from multiple sources, and expressing technical information comprehensibly. The Technical Writer will apply concepts for technical writing based on engineering drawings, technical information, consultations with subject matter experts, and other available sources. They will produce defense acquisition documentation, user manuals, training manuals, and other documentation for DoD electronic equipment and systems, interpreting engineering and maintenance drawings and operational procedures. Additionally, the role includes producing technical documentation for Cryptologic programs, developing analytic tradecraft methodologies, and applying the NSA DS-89 technical manual standard. The Technical Writer will provide expert oversight of technical writing and editing throughout all phases of acquisition and technical documentation, work independently on highly complex systems, programming, and operations documentation, and act as a project leader for complex documentation projects. Reviewing the work products of others for compliance with the technical manual, NSA Data Standard (NSA DS)-89 is also a key responsibility.

Requirements

  • Eight (8) years of experience as a TW in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university is required.
  • Active TS/SCI security clearance with a current polygraph is required

Nice To Haves

  • A Master’s degree may be substituted for two (2) years of experience, reducing the requirement to six (6) years of experience.
  • Four (4) years of additional TW experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree.

  • Produce defense acquisition documentation, user manuals, training manuals, and other documentation utilized by the end-user community of DoD electronic equipment and systems
  • Interpret engineering and maintenance drawings and operational procedures to understand and blend large quantities of computer-related information
  • Produce technical documentation for Cryptologic programs or projects, developing analytic tradecraft methodologies
  • Apply the technical manual standard NSA DS-89 to work products
  • Provide expert oversight of technical writing and editing to all phases of acquisition and technical documentation for the Program, Project, or Contract
  • Work independently, preparing and maintaining highly complex systems, programming, and operations documentation, procedures, and methods
  • Act as project leader for projects with complex or voluminous documentation, and may provide or coordinate special documentation services as required
