About The Position

The Technical Writer / Content Developer position will be responsible for the daily production of the content that over 52,000 UnitedHealth Group engineers rely on: tutorials, how-to guides, quick starts, troubleshooting content, and release documentation for the internal Healthcare Platform knowledge site. This individual will work directly with platform engineering teams to keep documentation accurate through product changes, translate engineering material into clear, task-oriented guidance, and act on reader feedback as part of the platform’s remediation loops. This role is the production engine of the knowledge team and suits a writer who can read code, ask sharp questions, and ship steadily. You will enjoy the flexibility to telecommute from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

Requirements

  • 3-5+ years of technical writing experience in a software, cloud, platform engineering, or technical product environment, creating clear, accurate, and user-focused documentation including tutorials, how-to guides, FAQs, troubleshooting content, and reference materials
  • 2-4+ years of experience collaborating with engineering teams, product managers, and subject matter experts within agile or matrixed environments to gather, validate, and maintain technical content
  • 2+ years of experience using developer-oriented documentation formats such as Markdown, reStructuredText, or other lightweight markup languages
  • 2+ years of experience working with Git/GitHub workflows, including branching strategies, pull request reviews, version control, and documentation CI/CD processes
  • 2+ years of experience producing technical diagrams, workflow visualizations, and system documentation using tools such as Mermaid, Figma, draw.io, or Visio
  • 2+ years of experience with structured authoring methodologies, metadata tagging, reusable content frameworks, and content management best practices
  • 2+ years of experience maintaining and updating technical documentation throughout the software development lifecycle to reflect product enhancements, feature releases, and platform changes
  • 1-3+ years of experience creating developer-focused documentation, with the ability to read and interpret code snippets, API specifications, command-line tools, and system configuration files
