About The Position

The Technical Writer is responsible for developing, editing, organizing, and maintaining technical documentation supporting telecommunications infrastructure projects. This role works closely with engineers, project managers, field technicians, and government customers to produce clear, accurate, and compliant documentation throughout the project lifecycle, including site surveys, engineering designs, implementation plans, test reports, and closeout documentation. The ideal candidate possesses excellent writing and organizational skills, understands telecommunications infrastructure concepts, and is capable of translating complex technical information into professional documentation suitable for both technical and non-technical audiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field; equivalent experience may be substituted.
  • 3+ years of technical writing experience supporting telecommunications, networking, IT infrastructure, or engineering projects.
  • DoD Secret clearance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong editing and proofreading abilities.
  • Experience developing documentation from interviews with technical subject matter experts.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio
  • Experience with Adobe Acrobat Professional.
  • Strong organizational and document management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD), Federal Government, or Department of Navy telecommunications programs.
  • Familiarity with telecommunications infrastructure including: Outside Plant (OSP), Inside Plant (ISP), Fiber optic cabling, Structured cabling systems, MDF/IDF design, Copper and fiber infrastructure, Network equipment installation, Voice and VoIP systems
  • Experience documenting: Telecommunications site surveys, Circuit inventories, Rack elevations, Cable routing, Engineering drawings, Telecommunications implementation projects
  • Knowledge of ANSI/TIA, BICSI, and industry telecommunications standards.
  • Familiarity with SharePoint or electronic document management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, edit, and maintain technical documentation for telecommunications infrastructure projects.
  • Create and maintain project documentation including: Site Survey Reports, Engineering Design Packages, Installation and Implementation Plans, Method of Procedure (MOP) documents, Test Plans and Test Reports, As-Built Documentation, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Operations and Maintenance Manuals, Closeout Packages, Training Materials
  • Work directly with engineers and field personnel to collect technical information and accurately document network infrastructure.
  • Review field notes, drawings, photographs, cable schedules, rack elevations, and GIS information for completeness and accuracy.
  • Ensure documentation complies with customer standards, contract requirements, and applicable industry standards.
  • Develop document templates, style guides, and document control procedures.
  • Coordinate documentation reviews with project stakeholders and incorporate comments and revisions.
  • Track document versions and maintain configuration control.
  • Produce graphics, diagrams, tables, workflows, and process documentation using Microsoft Visio and other documentation tools.
  • Assist project teams with documentation planning throughout project execution.
  • Maintain document repositories and ensure proper organization of project deliverables.
  • Support quality assurance reviews to ensure documentation accuracy and completeness.
