About The Position

Scientific Applications & Research Associates, Inc. (SARA) is seeking a Technical Writer I to support research and development activities within its High Power Electromagnetics Division (HPEM) in Colorado Springs, CO. This role involves transitioning innovative technologies to the DoD, DoE, and their contractors. The candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with engineers, physicists, and technicians on both established and new programs in a multidisciplinary environment, contributing from conception through operation. SARA is looking for team-oriented, communicative, resourceful, and creative individuals who can thrive in a fast-paced engineering setting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Writing, or related field
  • 0 - 2 years of related experience
  • Experienced in research and reporting across multiple disciplines and subjects
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail
  • US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain DoD Top Secret security clearance
  • May require light physical effort, involving standing, sitting, and carrying or lifting up to 15 pounds

Nice To Haves

  • Active DoD Top Secret or DoE Q clearance

Responsibilities

  • Edit, standardize, and/or make changes to material prepared by other contributing authors and technical personnel.
  • Produce and design physical media for distribution, including printed and bound workbooks, 3-ring binders, flyers, memos, brochures, and other marketing materials.
  • Conduct interviews with production and engineering personnel and review historical reports to become familiar with product technologies and production methods.
  • Organize technical content into clear, concise narratives that effectively convey information to a wide variety of potential audiences, including both highly technical and non-technical review entities.
  • Review writing assignments and establish information exchange standards that ensure proper order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
  • Contribute to the writing of technical materials, such as equipment manuals, appendices, or operating and maintenance instructions.
  • Prepare and deliver training information for a wide range of applications.
  • Copyedit technical contributions, technical reports, test plans, procedures, and other writing submittals.
