About The Position

Performs complex technical writing work. Work involves composing, organizing, and editing compiled information. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education (USDE).
  • Two years full-time, wage-earning technical program support, technical or research writing, report writing, or policy and procedure writing experience.
  • Knowledge of technical writing methods and procedures.
  • Knowledge of business terminology, spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
  • Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
  • Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public.
  • Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Skill in problem-solving techniques.
  • Skill in the use of computers and related equipment in a stand-alone or local area network environment.
  • Skill to review technical data and prepare technical reports.
  • Skill in technical writing and development of information publications.
  • Skill to plan work in order to meet established guidelines.
  • Skill to research, compose, review, illustrate, and edit technical documents, materials, and reports.
  • Skill to conduct research and analyses.
  • Ability to walk, stand, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry under 15 lbs., perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle, and operate motor equipment.
  • Ability to work inside, work around machines with moving parts and moving objects, radiant and electrical energy, work closely with others, work alone, work protracted or irregular hours, and travel by car, van, bus, and airplane.

Nice To Haves

  • Major course work in Business Administration, Criminal Justice, English, or a related field.
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent to include word processing, spreadsheet, database, or presentation software programs.
  • Criminal justice experience.
  • Knowledge of agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Composes, reviews, proofs, and edits technical and procedural documents to include procedure and training materials, bulletins, brochures, publications, and special reports; and assists in preparing and refining material for speeches and other public presentations.
  • Organizes and coordinates the composition of documentation and technical materials and drafting of training materials suitable for reproduction; obtains, interprets, and documents the accuracy of information and procedures; works with agency staff in the development of formats, graphics, and layout of publications; and ensures compliance with established formats.
  • Reviews and edits prepared material and illustrations; edits material for training publications; and prepares, edits, proofs, and distributes proposed and finalized specifications.
  • Coordinates the clarification of material and the priority of projects.
  • Maintains files, records, and automated data related to technical work.
  • Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.
