Technical Writer/Editor

CACI International•Kittery, ME
•$61,600 - $129,300

About The Position

CACI is seeking a Technical Writer/Editor to support contracted Government taskings by producing and improving a wide range of technical and customer-facing documents. The role involves transforming rough or unfamiliar-source content into clear, logically organized, accurate, consistently styled material. The writer/editor corrects spelling, syntax, grammar, and voice; applies an internal style guide and approved templates; and writes directly in active voice at a high-school reading level. The position also identifies knowledge gaps, logic errors, missing or conflicting steps, and incorrect assumptions for review by designated subject matter experts. It requires professional judgment and flexibility when creating basic graphic and text layouts, since documents may not fit a single template or style-guide scenario. The position supports development of workbooks, manuals, training materials, technical and performance reports, presentations, white papers, slide decks, and standard operating procedures. The Technical Writer/Editor gathers requirements, interviews and collaborates with stakeholders and subject matter experts, conducts research, and communicates technical information accurately to its intended audience. The role also tracks and reports progress, facilitates review meetings, incorporates feedback, manages files and document revisions, and ensures work is completed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule. Additional duties may include overflow graphic-design work and supporting contract reporting requirements. Work location may fluctuate among a customer site, CACI office, and home site by prior arrangement. Candidates must live within commuting distance of Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility, or Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility. Travel may be required up to 10%. A DOD Interim Secret clearance is required before starting, followed by a final DOD Secret clearance.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain a DOD Interim Secret security clearance before starting and a subsequent final DOD Secret security clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree, or a minimum of five years of directly applicable work experience in lieu of the degree requirement.
  • Minimum of three years of professional related work experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and expert-level writing, editing, formatting, and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to carefully review raw text, edit it to a specific standard and style guide, and consistently and accurately format text and images in Microsoft 365 applications with minimal supervision.
  • Experience gathering project requirements and interviewing stakeholders and subject matter experts.
  • Strong proficiency in concisely and coherently organizing and presenting information.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with others to define project requirements accurately and efficiently.
  • Strong customer-service orientation and written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to engage respectfully with internal and external customers at all levels to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Outstanding organizational skills to manage competing priorities, multiple concurrent taskings, and firm deadlines efficiently.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, with strong proficiency in Word and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work within commuting distance of one of the specified public Naval Shipyards: Norfolk, Portsmouth, Puget Sound, or Pearl Harbor.

  • Reorganize rough content into a logical sequence using consistent terminology, correct errors, apply the internal style guide, and format text and images consistently using Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Identify knowledge gaps, logic errors, missing or conflicting steps, and incorrect assumptions, and flag them for designated subject matter experts.
