About The Position

Austin Industries has an outstanding opportunity for a Technical Writer and Media Developer to transform complex information into professionally written but easy to understand policy and engaging instruction. This position will be responsible for developing, writing, and editing policy manuals and related documents. In addition, we are looking for someone who develops, designs, produces, and manages training content in a variety of formats including e-learning courses, video, audio, graphical, and other multimedia. This role is located at the corporate headquarters in Dallas, Texas, and will report in person.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, instructional design, marketing or a related field.
  • 0 – 2 years’ experience in technical writing and/or training development.
  • 0 – 2 years’ experience with media development.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud apps, Camtasia, Articulate or other recording and editing software.

Responsibilities

  • Proofreading, reviewing, and editing documents for clarity, grammar, formatting, and functionality.
  • Analyzing audiences, preparing outlines, and working directly with subject matter experts to write policy and training content.
  • Writing, developing, and editing technical training materials, policy manuals, and related documents.
  • Creating scripts for narration and recording human or computer-generated voiceovers.
  • Managing files and folders to eliminate duplication and ensure version control.
  • Updating files, links, and page content on Austin’s intranet site.
  • Accelerating the creation and refreshment of technical training content, such as tutorials, digital interactives, user guides, audio and video scripts, story boards, and navigational text.
  • Handling multiple projects, defining project scope and milestones, and tracking and reporting status.
  • Ensuring proper use of brand identity, including logos, colors, and fonts.
  • Exploring new technologies to improve efficiency and quality.
  • Following established procedures and using sound judgement before publishing.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.
