About The Position

This Technical Training Instructor position supports the Power Delivery Distribution Training organization, focusing on delivering and maintaining training programs for Basic Line Skill and New Hire Journeymen Programs. These programs cover craft/technical skills from entry-level to journeyman in building, operating, maintaining, and repairing high voltage utility distribution lines, equipment, and systems. Responsibilities include collecting, organizing, and structuring information for new training, policies, and procedures. The role may also involve new hire strategies, collaborating with technical colleges and workforce development events to create awareness of career opportunities. Additionally, the position involves serving on committees, investigative teams, and writing technical documents. The role requires travel throughout Georgia and Southern Company regions, potentially including overnights and weekends, and the ability to support extended storm duty.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience in Overhead and Underground Distribution Construction and Maintenance required.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience as Journeyman required.
  • Must have a valid class A driver’s license.
  • Must have at least one year of verifiable driving experience as a licensed driver.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license for the class vehicle to be operated.
  • Must have no revocation of driving privileges within the 36 months prior to application.
  • No convictions of major traffic violations (DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, etc.) within the 12 months prior to application, or any pending charges for a major traffic violation at the time of application.
  • Must consent to a continuous monitoring of your Motor Vehicle Record.

  • Individuals currently living greater than 60 miles from Klondike may be eligible for hotel lodging.
  • Lone worker experience is a plus.
  • 6 years Line experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in a training role delivering presentations to a group audience (or classroom) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support, deliver, and maintain training programs focused on Basic Line Skill and New Hire Journeymen Programs.
  • Collect, organize, and structure information and material into a format that can be detailed and developed into new training, policies, and procedures.
  • Involve in new hire strategies working with technical colleges, Workforce Development camps/events, and other programs that would create awareness of career opportunities for future talent.
  • Serve on committees, investigative teams, and write technical documents for the distribution organization.
  • Champion safety, serve as a safety champion for employees through demonstration, teaching, coaching, actively caring and leading by example.
  • Work with Training Support Services to help develop and maintain training programs as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Power Delivery Organization.
  • Regularly review student performance and provide developmental feedback.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to other work groups, with regards to work methods, materials, equipment, and tools associated with the construction, operation, and maintenance of high voltage utility distribution systems.
  • Serve as a liaison to field representatives on the solution of technical, and operational issues.
  • Provide technical expertise on various committee assignments.
  • Serve as an FRC/ACS during storm restoration or provide damage assessment.
