About The Position

Olympic College is currently recruiting for a Technical Theatre / Technical Theatre Support Full-Time Faculty (Temporary). This role is a temporary full-time, 9-month (academic year) faculty position responsible for overseeing the technical functions of academic activities in the William D. Harvey Theatre and teaching one technical theatre class per quarter. The William D. Harvey Theatre is less than 10 years old and seats 276. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in lighting, sound, and video presentation. The ability to program a lightboard and set up audiovisual equipment is required. This candidate should be able to develop and teach courses preparing students for work in sets, props, lighting, sound, video, costumes, and technical management, giving them the proficiency to enter the workforce. The position is renewable for a second year and will be reevaluated in two years. The Technical Director is responsible for the technical aspects for all academic users of the William D. Harvey Theatre, including lighting, sound, set design, stage management, and other technical elements of performances and classroom usage. The position will coordinate theatre use with faculty and the Olympic College Events Coordinator, maintain theatre equipment, supervise crews, troubleshoot technical issues, and support Olympic College productions. Responsibilities include teaching one 5-credit technical theatre class per quarter. During the first year, develop the curriculum for an introductory stagecraft class to be taught the following quarter, and develop the curriculum for two additional courses so that a three-course Technical Theatre series can be offered in 2027–2028.

Requirements

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre or a related field with equivalent theatrical experience.
Professional theatrical production experience.
Teaching experience at the college level OR significant professional experience with demonstrated instructional or mentoring capability.
Strong working knowledge of theatre set construction and tools used in construction.
Knowledge of costume and drapery construction.
Experience with rigging systems, including counterweight and winch systems, and competence in their safe use.
Understanding of theatre lighting, including hanging, focusing, and programming lighting consoles.
Knowledge of theatre sound, including wireless microphones, musical production, and digital consoles.
Experience setting up and operating video playback systems for presentations.
Strong project management and leadership skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with minimal support.
Ability to work as a team member and maintain a positive attitude in times of stress.
Evidence of working with students in a safe and friendly environment.
Ability to work on and operate ladders and lifts.
Ability to lift, push, or maneuver 50–70 pounds repeatedly, either alone or with assistance from others.
Must be currently authorized to work in the United States.
Must reside in Washington State and within a reasonable distance of the campus to respond to workplace reporting requirements at the time of hiring.

Responsibilities

Coordinate with faculty using the William D. Harvey Theatre to set up and supervise technical elements required for production and educational use.
Provide hands-on involvement in all aspects of Olympic College productions.
Collaborate with the Olympic College Events Coordinator regarding facility use for events.
Troubleshoot and resolve problems with theatre equipment.
Supervise students, community, and professional crews in their use of the theatre.
Maintain the theatre and its equipment in good working order.
Research and budget upgrades to theatre equipment to provide students with opportunities to work with equipment used in professional work environments.
Develop and teach technical theatre courses aimed at preparing students for employment in technical theatre.
Supervise student interns from the technical theatre program.
