CBC/Radio-Canada is looking for a Technical Team Supervisor to work with the OTT team. The OTT team is responsible for building, maintaining and supporting some of the most prominent video streaming products in Canada: CBC Gem and ICI Tou.tv. You will lead the development on one of the value streams within the OTT product family. You will support the development team by contributing to the code, providing guidance on technical approaches of features and ensuring work delivered meets requirements and adheres to coding best practices. Every month, millions of Canadians rely on Gem and ICI Tou.tv to inform, enlighten and entertain them. Whether it is through news, sports, scripted shows, or major events like the Olympic Games, our streaming services express Canadian culture with a mission to serve all Canadians. Requirements

  • Two or more years of experience in a leadership role managing and leading a team of developers.
  • Three or more years of experience in a senior development role.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical and team leadership for other developers.
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal relationships building.
  • Experience with mentoring and coaching developers.
  • Drawing from their strengths and helping them with areas of improvements through timely feedback.
  • Experienced in coding standards, quality engineering management, source code management, CI/CD pipeline (eg Jenkins), release management.
  • Possess a degree (BA, BSc) or diploma in a Software Development, Computer Science or Engineering related discipline, delivered by a recognized learning institution.
  • Knowledge in software development lifecycle and Agile best practices.
  • You are proficient in one or more programming languages such as Javascript, TypeScript, Swift, Kotlin, C# and UI development libraries such as React, SwiftUI and Jetpack Compose.
  • Experience with the design and implementation of APIs.
  • Experience with automated and unit tests.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive innovation and improvements.
  • Ability to learn and share knowledge on new technologies to build subject matter expertise within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of 6-12 direct reports (developers) to deliver high quality applications consistently within an Agile framework.
  • Collaborating with Product Owner and Architects to assess feasibility of proposed changes/features and helping to break down, clarify, prioritize and estimate work to deliver value in each Agile sprint/product increment.
  • Working hands on with developers and QA to ensure implementations/approaches are cohesive and aligns with the system design and technical requirements set by the Solution Architects.
  • Promoting software development best practices: Reviewing PRs (pull requests), encouraging knowledge sharing and collaboration, active monitoring, helping the team maintain testable, maintainable, performant and quality code.
  • Coaching developers and supporting development activities like onboarding, coding, testing, release management with QA, debugging and bug fix.
  • Mentor and coach developers by leveraging their strengths, providing timely feedback to support their areas of improvement and identifying training needs.
  • Provide continuous feedback on ongoing team issues, feedback on members of the team to management and ATLs.
  • Support activities in relation with employee progression, such as hiring, annual reviews, performance improvement plan (if necessary), in partnership with your manager.
  • Actively fostering a diverse and inclusive team environment where all members feel valued, respected, and empowered to contribute their unique perspectives.
  • Working with senior management and Solution Architects to define and champion technical objectives for the team.
