About The Position

The Telecommunication Standardization Bureau (TSB) is responsible for fulfilling the Union's objectives related to telecommunication standardization. This involves providing secretariat support to study groups, facilitating the adoption of Recommendations, and standardizing telecommunications and information technology globally. The Operations and Planning Department (OPD) within TSB coordinates and plans the Bureau's activities, including assemblies, meetings, document processing, IT solutions, and the final production of ITU-T Recommendations and publications. The Editing, Publications and Documents Unit (EPD) specifically manages the technical editing and final production of these documents.

Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in electronics, telecommunications, information and communication technology (ICT), electrical engineering, science, or a related field, OR a diploma from a reputed college of advanced education equivalent to an advanced university degree in one of these fields.
  • At least five years of progressively responsible experience in technical editing, report writing, and preparation of presentations related to the development and publication of ICT/telecommunication standards.
  • At least two years of experience at the international level in technical editing, report writing, and preparation of presentations.
  • Excellent drafting and editing skills of technical documents in English.
  • Excellent knowledge of English grammar and usage.
  • Excellent knowledge of computerized office applications and tools.
  • Knowledge of editing and editorial processes.
  • Ability to work effectively in an international and multicultural standardization environment.
  • Knowledge of English at an advanced level.
  • Knowledge of French at an intermediate level.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of database conception, formal description languages such as XML, and electronic publishing formats.
  • Familiarity with the development of standards, particularly ITU-T Recommendations.
  • Knowledge of a third official language of the Union (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Spanish).

Responsibilities

  • Copy-edit draft and approved ITU-T Recommendations and other documents for clarity, accuracy, appropriate terminology, and alignment with organizational policies.
  • Control correspondence with authors and Study Group Counsellors, review edits by editorial assistants, and rewrite texts as needed in consultation with experts.
  • Coordinate editorial workflows among the Editing and Publications team, Study Group secretariats, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure overall consistency of ITU-T Recommendations and highlight technical issues in coordination with Study Group Counsellors.
  • Advise Study Group Counsellors on copyright matters, follow up on copyright requests, identify issues, and determine licensing terms.
  • Ensure procedures for publishing approved common texts with ISO are followed.
  • Assist in coordinating and monitoring editing and publication workflows.
  • Participate in activities related to terminology harmonization, including the Secretariat of the Standardization Committee for Vocabulary (SCV).
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
