Technical Staff, Network Architect

Dell Technologies•Santa Clara, CA

About The Position

The Technical Staff, Network Architect will join the Engineering Technologist team in Round Rock, Texas, or Santa Clara, California, to help develop next-generation large-scale AI infrastructure, including accelerated compute, AI Fabric, and AI-optimized storage. The role engages with high-profile AI customers to optimize solutions for their applications and tune systems for maximum performance, while driving datacenter-level innovation in liquid cooling technologies and power density. The position leads network and fabric design based on customer and infrastructure requirements, including InfiniBand, Ethernet, Accelerated Fabric Link (AFL), and other scalable fabric topologies. It defines network topologies optimized for training and inferencing; leads end-to-end AI network architecture covering GPU-to-GPU and server-to-storage connectivity, in-rack cabling, and datacenter optical design; and optimizes network topology and configuration to maximize AI cluster performance. The architect also works with external partners to create differentiated solutions and develops networking software, solutions, and architecture that integrate with AI frameworks and applications.

Requirements

  • Expert understanding of networking technologies, including switches, network-interface cards (NICs), Data Processing Units (DPUs), and AI fabrics.
  • Experience integrating AI frameworks, such as TensorFlow and PyTorch, and Kubernetes for machine-learning workloads.
  • Experience with datacenter network design and optical distribution.
  • Knowledge of networking protocol industry standards.
  • Customer and partner project or program leadership experience.
  • Ability to understand and assess customer requirements, develop technical solutions suited to customers’ geographical areas, negotiate conflicting interests, and prioritize deliverables to achieve stakeholder outcomes.
  • Willingness and ability to travel 20%–30%.

Nice To Haves

  • 15+ years of industry experience with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent skill.
  • Relationships with key suppliers of networking products.
