About The Position

Join Microchip’s FPGA Business Unit as a Technical Staff Engineer – Business Development, a role also referred to as Principal Engineer – Business Development, to drive the company's growth in the Aerospace and Defense market, specifically within the U.S. West Region. This position is critical for accelerating the adoption of Microchip’s radiation-tolerant and space-grade FPGA solutions by combining customer engagement, technical leadership, and strategic market influence. Responsibilities include building and managing customer relationships, identifying new business opportunities, delivering technical presentations, partnering with sales teams to close deals, providing forecasting inputs, monitoring industry trends, influencing product roadmaps, and representing Microchip at industry events. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline
  • 10+ years of experience in FPGA field applications, technical sales, or semiconductor business development
  • Exceptional communication skills—able to clearly articulate technical value and listen effectively to customer needs
  • Proven ability to work cross‑functionally and drive alignment across engineering, marketing, and sales teams
  • Strategic mindset with a passion for shaping technology direction and customer success
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Required to provide proof of either US citizenship, Permanent US residency or classification as a protected individual as defined in 8 USC 1324b (a) (3) for U.S. Export Controls

Responsibilities

  • Build, strengthen, and manage relationships with major Aerospace and Defense customers.
  • Identify, qualify, and develop new business opportunities across the U.S. West Region.
  • Deliver compelling technical updates, product briefings, and solution presentations—onsite and virtually.
  • Partner closely with sales teams to analyze pipelines, troubleshoot deal blockers, and accelerate opportunity closure.
  • Provide accurate and timely inputs for FPGA forecasting and operational planning.
  • Drive design-ins and design-wins that contribute to sustainable revenue growth.
  • Monitor industry trends, competitive positioning, and emerging market needs.
  • Influence product roadmaps, IP development priorities, and long‑term strategy through customer and market insight.
  • Execute targeted go‑to‑market activities to expand Microchip’s presence and mindshare in the space domain.
  • Represent Microchip at leading industry conferences, trade shows, and technical forums.
  • Deliver high‑quality technical papers and presentations that reinforce Microchip’s leadership in the space FPGA market.
