About The Position

The Technical Specialist Malignant Hematology is accountable for acting in accordance with the mission, vision, values and goals of the Hamilton Regional Laboratory Medicine Program (HRLMP) and those of St. Joseph's Hospital and Hamilton Health Sciences Corporations. This position will foster an environment which supports clinical excellence, continuous learning, outcome and evaluation research and promote open, participative communication within and across the HRLMP as well as the clinical programs and services. The Technical Specialist must be comfortable working with a team that processes regional volumes to include a wide range of malignant and hematological disorders, setting up protocols, interpreting data, compiling reports, as well as taking on a leadership role for facilitating professional development and continuing education within the profession to include the collaboration with Laboratory physicians, scientists and managers.

Requirements

  • Registered with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in flow cytometry including advanced data interpretation skills including compensation/spillover adjustments, advanced knowledge of Kaluza preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to correlate flow cytometry data with blood, bone marrow, and tissue/body fluid morphology
  • Advanced hematologic morphology skills that include both benign and malignant conditions.
  • Demonstrated excellence in technical, developmental, research, problem-solving and project management skills
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication skills (written and verbal), interpersonal skills, team building and the ability to initiate and model positive change

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced Registered Technologist, Bachelors of Science or Bachelor of Technology degree preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of Kaluza preferred
