We are seeking a highly dedicated and detail-oriented Technical Specialist to become an integral part of our dynamic R&D team. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to work collaboratively with our scientists and engineers to address and resolve a diverse range of technical challenges. The successful candidate will exemplify a strong commitment to the safe and efficient operation of our laboratories, which encompass both thermal processing equipment and sensitive analytical instruments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Life Sciences, Computer Science, Quality, or a Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as engineering, chemistry, or a related discipline.
  • Commitment to safety and quality practices.
  • Prior experience in an R&D laboratory setting.
  • At least five years of experience of thermal processing of thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) using, for example, injection molding, compression molding, film and tubing extrusion, and twin-screw compounding.
  • Familiarity with running analytical tests on polymers, for example mechanical testing and optical microscopy.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, collaboration abilities, and ability to write technical reports.
  • Proficient in using collaboration software including SharePoint and OneNote.
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in polymer processing or engineering.
  • At least five years of experience of thermal processing of thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs).
  • Proficiency in utilizing electronic lab notebooks (ELNs) to document processing results, track experimental samples and material inventory, and record experimental data.
  • Experience maintaining a lab to 5S standards.
  • Familiarity with ISO and ASTM standards.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure adherence to all safety protocols and laboratory best practices.
  • Maintain labs using the 5S Methodology: maintain equipment and lab space by performing tasks such as sweeping, mopping, wiping down equipment, organizing tools, and inventorying samples.
  • Operate our lab’s processing equipment (injection molder, compression molder, and extruders) safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain processing equipment. Write and review standard operating procedures, schedule and perform preventative maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve equipment and process issues to maintain smooth lab operations.
  • Perform broadly defined experiments: plan the experiment, execute the work, interpret the data in collaboration with internal experts, summarize results.
  • Capture experimental data accurately and maintain detailed records using electronic lab notebook (ELN) and other collaboration software.
  • Analyze and interpret processing data in collaboration with fellow staff members to support research goals.
  • Solve complex technical challenges related to the processing of thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs) through close collaboration with scientists and engineers.
  • Assist with the scale up of processing equipment, internally or at customers.
