About The Position

This role serves as the primary day-to-day contact for customers regarding product functionality and quality performance. The representative will regularly visit assigned steel customers across various industries to monitor quality, benchmark competition, and provide feedback. They will also review customer inquiries, participate in RFQs from a technical standpoint, and manage customer complaints and corrective actions. The position involves providing technical support to customer manufacturing facilities, participating in product development and trials, and coordinating customer visits and audits. A key aspect of the role is building strong relationships with customer personnel and understanding their functional requirements for the products.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree with minimum of 3 years customer service
  • Proven leadership, verbal & written communications, and presentation skills
  • Strong analytical, organizing and problem solving skills
  • 2 year steel plant experience in operations, technical service, outside sales, or product development OR 5-year experience in QA, Engineering, or manufacturing at sheet steel customer
  • Must be able to work collaboratively and constructively with Customers, Operations, and Commercial
  • Proven conflict resolution
  • Strong work ethic. Self-starter. Positive outlook. Team Player
  • Must be able to travel to customer locations at short notice

Nice To Haves

  • B.S. in Metallurgy, Materials Science, or Mechanical Engineering
  • Demonstrated knowledge of steelmaking processes, steel specs, applications, and MES L3
  • Both steel production and steel user experience in manufacturing, QA, or Engineering
  • Knowledge of ISO and other applicable standards, such as API and ABS

Responsibilities

  • Serve as customer’s day-to-day contact for product functionality and quality performance.
  • Regularly visit assigned steel customers for monitoring quality performance, benchmarking competition, and providing verbal and written feedback reports to Operations and Commercial.
  • Review steel customer inquiries and participate in RFQs from a technical perspective. Help determine property parameters and steel grade.
  • Overall responsibility for review of customer complaints, claims, and corrective actions.
  • Assist Operations in troubleshooting and correcting quality issues.
  • Provide technical support to customer’s manufacturing facilities.
  • Participate in product development, qualification, and plant trials.
  • Coordinate and participate in customer visits, tours, audits and certification procedures for the Mill.
  • Develop a strong rapport with customer’s Manufacturing, Quality and Engineering personnel.
  • Evaluate corrosion, forming, welding and painting test results as appropriate.
  • Work effectively with Operations, Sales, and Product Development to ensure Customer Satisfaction.
  • Understand current and future functional requirements for products as used by the customer.
