About The Position

The Technical Services Manager – Ferrous & Aluminum is responsible for ensuring overall customer satisfaction and product quality and for being the key technical resource for the sales team, offering support and knowledge/expertise. This role is also responsible for implementing and controlling all manufacturing quality systems to include employee training, analyzing, controlling, and minimizing rejections, handling and following up on customer complaints and specifying processing parameters.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of quality systems such as IS09001/IATF16949 and CQI-9, CQI-12, NADCAP.
  • Ability to plan, determine, formulate, establish and manage complete quality assurance systems.
  • Must maintain high quality standards, have a pleasant disposition and use tact in dealing with employees and customers.
  • Must be able to supervise, communicate, use computer related quality programs and have good writing and project management skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point) and Plex preferred.
  • Must be able to use higher mathematics involving engineering principles.
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy or Material Science.
  • A minimum of five years of manufacturing experience or equivalent.
  • Extensive knowledge of heat-treating principles including time, temperature, transformation relations, hardness and microstructural analysis and quality control using SPC (Statistical Process Control) techniques.

  • Working experience in ferrous & aluminum processing preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Key resource to assist members of the Sales Team with support and knowledge/expertise related to ferrous & aluminum processing. Attend sales calls as the technical resource as needed.
  • Analyze rejected work and make proper disposition using chemical analysis, microstructural analysis, heat treating cycle, review of the paperwork of the rejected work, and individual employee meetings, if necessary.
  • Specify the processing parameters for new jobs using purchase orders, specifications and drawings.
  • Prepare initial sample report per customer request.
  • Ensure employees are trained in the field of SPC, inspection techniques, record keeping and basic heat treating principles by conducting training sessions and meeting with employees on an individual basis if needed.
  • Maintain complete and accurate quality records as prescribed by the Quality Assurance Manual. To include: Instrument Calibration and Gage Control, Record of non-conforming material, Advanced Quality planning, Employee involvement.
  • Communicate all process changes to employees, and appropriate supervisors and managers.
  • Ensure that employees have proper equipment and procedures to perform their job duties.
  • Write standard procedures, control plans, process specification sheets metallurgical reports, etc.
  • Detect and analyze trends, if any, by careful review of X bar & R Charts, inspection logs, quality reports, inspection, furnace, reports, etc.
  • Assist customers with product quality problems, new product information, prototype assistance and other special requests.
  • Respond to customer complaints. Let employees, supervisors, managers and sales know about any complaints or problems.
  • Follow up on customer complaints by contacting the customer and evaluate the effectiveness of the corrective actions.
  • Ensure that proper quality assurance procedures and techniques are maintained and adhered to throughout the plant.
  • Responsible for and completing all required annual safety and environmental training.
  • Know, understand, and follow all applicable Federal, State, and Local environmental legal requirements and practices.
