About The Position

We are seeking a Technical SEO Specialist (Contractor) to lead the SEO workstream on site migrations, including replatforming, domain changes, URL restructures, IA overhauls, design system rollouts, and CMS/PIM transitions. This role involves running pre-migration baselines, building and QAing redirect maps, authoring migration runbooks, and leading post-launch validation and traffic recovery. You will also conduct technical audits, diagnose JavaScript rendering issues, own Core Web Vitals strategy, implement Schema.org JSON-LD, and manage various site files and configurations. Additionally, you will be involved in GEO audit and strategy implementation, including AI readiness and improving findability in LLMs. Performance monitoring, reporting, and cross-functional partnership with engineering, strategy, design, and content teams are key aspects of this role. Support for domain-owned SEO is also required.

Requirements

4+ years of technical SEO experience, with demonstrated ownership of at least two complex site migrations or replatforms end-to-end
Deep working knowledge of crawlability, indexability, rendering (CSR/SSR/SSG), canonicalization, hreflang, schema markup, and Core Web Vitals
Proficiency with technical SEO tooling: Screaming Frog, Sitebulb, Google Search Console, Google Analytics, log file analyzers (e.g., Screaming Frog Log File Analyzer)
Comfort with redirect logic and ability to author and QA large redirect maps (regex-based and 1:1)
Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript — enough to read code, diagnose rendering issues, and write precise engineering tickets
Ability to communicate technical issues and tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders
Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, build-and-scale environment

Shopify experience — collection/product URL handling, theme rendering, app conflicts, locale routing, headless setups (Hydrogen)
Experience with headless or composable commerce migrations
Familiarity with edge/CDN-level redirect handling (Cloudflare Workers, Vercel, Netlify)
Exposure to AI-powered discovery and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)
Experience with international SEO (multi-region, multi-language sites)
Experience collaborating with writers, agencies, and cross-functional partners

Responsibilities

Lead the SEO workstream on site migrations: replatforming, domain changes, URL restructures, IA overhauls, design system rollouts, and CMS/PIM transitions
Run pre-migration baselines: full crawls, log file analysis, indexable page inventories, top-traffic and top-revenue page snapshots, backlink profile capture
Build and QA redirect maps (1:1 where possible, intent-matched where not), partnering with engineering on implementation and edge cases (parameters, faceted URLs, pagination, locale paths)
Author migration runbooks with risk assessments, go/no-go checklists, staging QA protocols, and rollback criteria
Lead post-launch validation: indexation monitoring, redirect health, render parity, schema parity, internal link integrity, Core Web Vitals regression checks
Diagnose and recover traffic in the event of post-migration drops; build the recovery roadmap
Conduct technical audits across crawlability, indexability, rendering, site architecture, internal linking, canonicalization, and structured data
Create presentations with audit data to review the findings with clients
Diagnose JavaScript rendering issues (CSR vs SSR vs SSG, hydration, lazy-loaded content) and partner with engineering on fixes
Own Core Web Vitals strategy in partnership with engineering — LCP, INP, CLS — including diagnosis, prioritization, and verification
Implement and validate Schema.org JSON-LD across product, collection, article, FAQ, breadcrumb, and organization types
Manage XML sitemaps, LLM.txt, robots.txt, hreflang, canonical strategy, and pagination handling
Run log file analysis to understand crawl behavior and bot allocation
Review agentic AI Readiness audits and prioritize fixes and implementation
Understand GEO basics and how to implement GEO improvement strategies
Create Query Fan Out strategies, strengthen Entity analysis and optimization, audit and diagnose AI visibility issues
Implement AI visibility strategies to improve finability in various LLM’s
Use Claude and other AI platforms to help improve speed of delivery and to enhance client strategies
Track rankings, traffic, indexation, and revenue impact of technical work; communicate clear, prioritized insights to clients and internal teams
Build dashboards and reports with GSC, GA4, Looker Studio, and SEO platforms
Stay current on algorithm updates, rendering changes, and emerging discovery surfaces (AI Overviews, AI assistants, GEO)
Partner with engineering throughout discovery, build, QA, and launch to ensure SEO requirements are scoped, built, and validated
Translate technical SEO requirements into engineering tickets with clear acceptance criteria
Educate internal teams (Strategy, Design, Engineering, Content) on technical SEO fundamentals and migration best practices
