About The Position

Professor Zhihao Zhang is seeking undergraduate and graduate research assistants to contribute to projects focused on large language models, human decision-making, and quantitative modeling of choice behavior. This role is specifically open to UVA students from various disciplines who possess strong programming and statistical skills. The hourly pay rate is determined by the student's level of education.

Requirements

  • Strong foundation in statistics and probability.
  • Good intuition for probabilistic reasoning and geometry.
  • Proficiency in Python.
  • Some experience with pandas and Git.
  • Strong work ethics.
  • Good communication skills are mandatory.
  • Must be a UVA undergraduate or graduate student.
  • Students must have strong programming and statistical skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with open-source LLMs.
  • Experience with numerical optimization.
  • Sensitive to subtle conceptual distinctions.
  • Comfortable thinking carefully about what an empirical result actually means.
  • Curiosity about LLMs, human behavior, decision-making, or related topics.

Benefits

  • Hourly pay rate depends on level of education: 4-year degree: $16.00/hour, MA/MS Degree: $22.00/hour, Ph.D. Degree: $25/hour.
