About The Position

WindBorne Systems is building a global constellation of smart weather balloons to collect critical atmospheric data for supercharging weather forecasts. The Constellation Team is responsible for keeping the fleet flying and directing its path. This role focuses on ensuring that learnings from edge-case explorations are translated into durable progress, turning one-off projects into validated capabilities and repeatable workflows. The Technical Project Manager will be responsible for tracking all organizational commitments across hardware, software, manufacturing, and field deployment, driving projects to completion, and documenting them for long-term sustainability. This role requires someone who can manage fast-paced projects, understand technical nuances, and maintain organization amidst shifting priorities.

Requirements

  • Ability to transition one-off prototypes into consistent processes and systems.
  • Relentless and warm follow-up skills; ability to earn accountability through reliability, directness, and investment in others' success.
  • Strong drive to complete tasks and ensure their durability through documentation.
  • Technical fluency to understand the nuances of deeply technical projects, even without a background in specific fields like atmospheric science, radio, or defense tech.
  • Comfort with uncertainty and shifting priorities; ability to maintain progress on projects even as they evolve.
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback and identify when processes or decisions are incorrect.
  • American citizenship required due to the sensitive nature of some work.

Nice To Haves

  • Genuine curiosity about how the world works, including an interest in balloons, atmospheric science, radio, airspace, and defense tech.

Responsibilities

  • Run project tracking for every project across the organization, ensuring visibility into project status, ownership, and timelines.
  • Brief the Head of Constellation on project status and deadlines, translating strategic direction into actionable milestones and assigned owners.
  • Lead weekly performance meetings, capturing action items, setting deadlines, and ensuring follow-through on task completion.
  • Monitor and ensure fulfillment of obligations, including contracts, external deliverables, and internal shipments across manufacturing, launch, flight, and constellation operations.
  • Coordinate inter-team dependencies, ensuring necessary resources and timelines are met when one internal team builds for another or for specific exercises.
  • Analyze flight data to generate clear statistics on balloon performance and identify root causes of failures.
  • Protect and prioritize important but non-urgent work, such as postmortems and process improvements, which can be overlooked during high-pressure situations.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of $110,000–$150,000, adjusted based on background and experience.
  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge weather technology.
  • Role in a fast-paced, early-stage startup environment.
