Technical Project Manager - Data and Databricks

Hike2Remote, PA
$120,000 - $180,000

About The Position

HIKE2 is an advisory and innovation partner helping organizations design and build what’s next. We work with complex and regulated industries, including law firms, financial services, insurance, professional services, and high-growth SaaS companies, to modernize operating models and embed data, automation, and AI into the core of how work gets done. Our clients aren’t just upgrading technology. They are rethinking workflows, activating governed AI, and designing environments where humans and intelligent systems work side by side. We believe meaningful transformation happens when strategy, data, design, and engineering move together. Siloed initiatives don’t scale. Real progress requires clarity of vision, strong data foundations, responsible governance, and disciplined execution. Our teams bring deep industry expertise, human-centered design, and advanced data and cloud capabilities to architect secure, scalable solutions built for real-world complexity. From modern data platforms to AI-enabled workflows and enterprise automation, we help organizations move from experimentation to measurable impact. We thrive in change and move from blank slate to working systems. We care deeply about outcomes, trust, and building long-term partnerships. We don’t just implement technology. We help design the future of work. The Technical Project Manager – Data & Databricks is responsible for driving the day-to-day execution of complex data and Databricks engagements. This is a hands-on project leadership role for someone who combines strong project management discipline with deep experience delivering data, analytics, cloud, or data platform initiatives. This person does more than manage a project plan. They understand the technical work being performed, can follow the details of architecture and engineering conversations, recognize dependencies and delivery risks, and ensure the team is following HIKE2’s technical and project delivery playbooks. The Technical Project Manager reports into the PMO and partners closely with Databricks architects, data engineers, technical leads, consultants, and client stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of project or program management experience, with significant experience leading data, analytics, cloud, or data platform implementations.
  • Demonstrated experience managing technical engineering teams and complex technical workstreams.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to continuously deepen technical knowledge across Databricks, modern data architecture, cloud platforms, analytics, and emerging AI/ML capabilities.
  • Strong working knowledge of Jira and Agile delivery practices.
  • Experience with Databricks strongly preferred; experience with comparable modern cloud data platforms may be considered.
  • Ability to understand technical architecture, engineering terminology, dependencies, and delivery sequencing.
  • Ability to translate those complex technical concepts into business terms for non-technical audiences
  • Strong client-facing communication and executive-level status reporting skills.
  • Comfortable operating in fast-moving projects where requirements, technical decisions, and priorities evolve.
  • Strong ownership mindset with the ability to move between detailed project execution and broader project health.
  • The Technical PM does not need to be the project's architect or lead engineer, but they must be technically fluent enough to understand what the team is building and how the pieces fit together.
  • They should be comfortable discussing and managing work involving: Databricks and modern data platforms, including how they support analytics, AI/ML, and GenAI workloads, Data engineering and data pipelines, ETL/ELT and data integration, Data architecture and modeling, Cloud data environments, Source-to-target mapping and data migration, Development, testing, deployment, and environment management, Data quality, governance, security, and access, Technical dependencies and integration points, Agile technical delivery and engineering backlogs.
  • The expectation is that this person can sit in a technical working session, understand what is being discussed, capture the implications for the project, ask intelligent questions, and translate the conversation into actions, risks, dependencies, and Jira work.
  • All applicants must reside in the U.S. and hold US Citizenship to be considered for employment.
  • Hike2 cannot sponsor work authorizations or visas now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Databricks strongly preferred; experience with comparable modern cloud data platforms may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Own the day-to-day execution and operating rhythm of assigned Databricks and data projects.
  • Own the connection between technical delivery, client priorities, and the business outcomes the platform is intended to enable.
  • Maintain the Jira board as the source of truth for project execution, including backlog, stories, tasks, dependencies, blockers, owners, and status.
  • Ensure work is appropriately defined, prioritized, assigned, estimated, and progressing through the delivery lifecycle.
  • Run project ceremonies including stand-ups, planning, backlog reviews, status meetings, and retrospectives as appropriate.
  • Produce and distribute the Weekly Pulse Report, clearly communicating progress, accomplishments, upcoming work, risks, decisions, dependencies, budget/burn, and items requiring attention.
  • Maintain project plans, milestones, RAID logs, decisions, action items, resource plans, and other required PMO artifacts.
  • Understand the technical delivery plan and ensure the team is following the established Databricks/data technical playbook.
  • Track technical dependencies across data sources, environments, pipelines, integrations, architecture, security, testing, deployment, and client teams.
  • Identify delivery risks early and drive issues to resolution rather than simply reporting status.
  • Ensure client and HIKE2 stakeholders have clear visibility into project health, decisions, risks, and next steps.
  • Partner with technical leads to translate technical work into an executable project plan and clear client communication.
  • Escalate issues through the PMO and delivery leadership when additional support or decisions are required
