About The Position

The People Development team at Lyft is responsible for building the infrastructure for how Lyft grows, develops, and equips its people. As a Technical Learning Manager, you will own the strategy and execution of technical learning programs for Lyft's Engineering, Science, Product, and Design organizations. This role is at the intersection of learning design, program management, and functional excellence across the technology organizations. You will manage an existing portfolio of programs for software engineers, including Tech Learning, compliance training, and documentation initiatives, and will be responsible for running, evolving, and expanding them across all of Lyft’s tech orgs. You will report to the Head of People Development and collaborate with Functional Excellence leadership, HRBPs, and cross-functional partners to ensure technical learning programs are high-quality, well-adopted, and aligned with business outcomes.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in learning & development, technical program management, or a closely related field, with demonstrated ownership of complex, cross-functional programs.
  • Experience designing and delivering learning programs for technical audiences, comfortable reviewing code snippets, understanding Git workflows (e.g., opening PRs, working in GitHub), and building curriculum for hands-on technical content.
  • Strong program management skills: able to manage multiple programs simultaneously, define milestones, identify risks, and adapt in ambiguous environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with engineering leaders and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Experience with AI/ML learning content, technical enablement, or developer education.
  • Familiarity with LMS platforms (e.g., Codecademy, Docebo, Udemy) and experience managing compliance or required training workflows.
  • Excellent communication skills: able to synthesize complex tradeoffs and present recommendations to senior leaders clearly and confidently.
  • Comfort operating in a fast-moving environment where programs may need to be built, inherited, or adapted.

Responsibilities

  • Own the strategy and execution of Lyft's technical learning portfolio, including engineering continuing education programs, documentation improvement initiatives, and compliance training.
  • Manage mid-cycle programs with active stakeholder relationships and scheduled commitments, ensuring continuity, quality, and follow-through.

  • Assess the current program portfolio and make recommendations grounded in engineer needs and business priorities.
  • Provide engaging learning experiences that empower technologists to do their best work at Lyft.
  • Embed AI upskilling in all programs, including LLM education, AI productivity programming, and connecting the dots across all AI training functions at Lyft.
  • Partner with internal AI Champions and peer learning program owners to ensure technical learning initiatives are connected, complementary, and reaching the right audiences.
  • Own and maintain tech learning sites, resources, and reference materials, ensuring content is current, discoverable, and reflects the latest programs and priorities.
  • Design programs in ambiguous spaces, clarifying goals, defining success metrics, and building toward sustained program health.
  • Leverage a champion model and internal subject matter experts to scale content delivery.
  • Ensure programs are documented and structured for self-serve or handoff where appropriate.
  • Build toward a scalable, structured continuing education program for engineers at Lyft, anchored in identified skill gaps.
  • Partner with the technical onboarding program to ensure the onboarding experience is well-integrated with the broader technical learning ecosystem.
  • Integrate technical manager training topics into People Development's Manager programming, ensuring engineering managers are well-served within the broader PDev portfolio.
  • As the role grows, contribute to resourcing decisions and help shape the structure of the technical learning function at Lyft.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with engineering leaders, infrastructure TPMs, and tech-adjacent teams as the face of PDev to the technical community.
