Technical Program Manager, Research

FAR.AI,
$125,000 - $190,000Hybrid

About The Position

FAR.AI is seeking Technical Program Managers to define programs for its foundational research and research infrastructure teams. The Research organization is expanding its portfolio of technical research agendas, including model deception, applied interpretability, evaluation awareness, pre-training filtering, and open-weight safety. As the research portfolio grows, so will the needs for research infrastructure. The Technical Program Manager will identify high-leverage problems, own them end-to-end, and build the necessary processes, systems, and tooling to accelerate the work of researchers and engineers.

Requirements

  • A strong technical background in ML, software engineering, or another scientific/research field.
  • 4+ years of experience building technical programs from scratch.
  • Practical domain experience in AI/ML, such as coordinating model releases, procuring or managing datasets, or supporting evaluations.
  • A proven track record of delivering complex technical programs while managing trade-offs and strategic priorities.
  • Experience successfully facilitating technology transfer of foundational and applied research into production environments.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly and ramp up on unfamiliar technical domains to engage effectively with researchers and engineers.
  • Ability to reason about technical trade-offs (e.g., balancing output quality with cost, compute efficiency, and infrastructure needs) to facilitate clear decision-making.
  • Enjoyment of 0-to-1 work, building processes, systems, and structure where none exist.
  • Ability to thrive in an ambiguous, fast-paced, and rapidly scaling environment.
  • A deep commitment to ensuring safe and beneficial AI.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with scientific computing cluster management.
  • Experience with public storytelling through interactive demos or blog posts.
  • Experience supporting hiring processes for technical staff.

Responsibilities

  • Take complex technical programs from idea to delivery, including scoping plans and milestones, and ensuring multi-team work progresses efficiently, transparently, and to a high technical standard.
  • Prioritize competing demands in collaboration with research teams to ensure efforts are focused on the highest-impact work.
  • Build and maintain compute and resource roadmaps by identifying bottlenecks and trade-offs, finding ways to accelerate progress, and developing relationships with external partners.
  • Partner with researchers to effectively package their work for transfer to frontier labs and other stakeholders, including findings, methods, and tools.
  • Connect research and engineering efforts with internal partners in Operations, Events, and Communications, providing them with the necessary timelines, results, and context for planning, resourcing, and communication.

Benefits

  • Full-time employment.
  • Potential for US visa sponsorship.
  • Compensation: USD 125,000–190,000, depending on experience. Exceptional candidates may be offered more.
