Technical Program Management Lead

RetoolSan Francisco, CA

About The Position

As a Technical Program Manager at Retool, you'll be the connective tissue across our engineering, product, and design organizations - keeping complex, multi-team programs on track and ensuring we ship the right things at the right time. You'll own end-to-end delivery of our most critical cross-functional initiatives, from scoping and planning through launch and retrospective. This role sits at the intersection of execution and communication. You'll work across product, engineering, design, and go-to-market teams to drive alignment, surface risks early, and remove blockers before they slow us down. You’re a force multiplier for the teams you support. You'll partner closely with engineering leads, product managers, and senior leadership across the company. You'll run programs that span multiple teams and functions, from platform infrastructure to customer-facing product launches. You'll also work with our operations and GTM teams to coordinate internal readiness for major releases. We're a lean, high-velocity team, and TPMs here own more than just schedules - they shape how programs get structured, influence technical decisions, and help the org learn how to work better over time.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of technical program management or related experience (engineering, product operations, or similar)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex, cross-functional programs in a fast-moving environment
  • Strong technical intuition - you can hold your own in technical conversations, understand architectural tradeoffs, and know when to ask the right questions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; you can tailor your message to engineers, executives, and everyone in between
  • High ownership mentality: you treat the programs you run as your own and do whatever it takes to make them succeed
  • Experience with agile delivery, program planning, and tooling like Linear, or similar

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end program management for large, cross-functional EPD initiatives—from kickoff through retrospective
  • Define program structure, milestones, and success metrics in partnership with engineering leads and product managers
  • Track dependencies, surface risks proactively, and drive resolution before they become blockers
  • Run planning and coordination ceremonies (kickoffs, weekly syncs, milestone reviews) that are actually useful—not just status updates
  • Build transparency across teams through clear, consistent communication on program health, decisions, and tradeoffs
  • Partner with EPD leadership to improve how we plan, prioritize, and execute across the org
  • Support hiring and onboarding readiness for EPD teams as we scale
