About The Position

State Fair Community College has an opening on the Sedalia campus for a full-time technical math and applied science instructor. This individual will be responsible for teaching courses that may include technical math, applied science, and construction statics and strengths. This position requires a commitment to student success, instructional excellence, and continuous improvement in course design and delivery. The ideal candidate will bring industry experience, innovative use of active teaching strategies, ability to connect with technical education students, and a commitment to student engagement and growth. This position is open to all individuals who meet the qualifications outlined below. Most importantly, we are looking for someone who demonstrates both enthusiasm for the subject and a passion for teaching.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Applied Science, Engineering, Physics or a closely related quantitative field, with a minimum of 18 semester hours in mathematics, physics, or other directly related quantitative coursework from a regionally accredited institution.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Applied Science, Engineering, Physics or a closely related quantitative field, with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in mathematics, physics, or other directly related quantitative coursework from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Prior community college teaching experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of career and technical education pathways.
  • Familiarity with industry-aligned curriculum, competency-based education, or contextualized math/science instruction.
  • Experience with online and hybrid instruction, including the use of learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard).
  • Experience in curriculum development and instructional design.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in engineering, manufacturing, or technical education.
  • Demonstrated ability to create engaging and interactive instructional materials.
  • Experience using technology to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.
  • Preference is given to Missouri residents.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver engaging course content that aligns with program objectives and outcomes.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to support student growth and learning.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including empathy and sensitivity to students with diverse learning needs, coupled with a commitment to innovative teaching methods that improve comprehension and reduce anxiety in math and science learning.
  • Collaborate with other faculty members to ensure that the content covered meets the needs of technical education programs.
  • Design hands-on learning activities that encourage problem-solving and critical thinking that is student-centered through various modalities, including in-person, online, and hybrid formats.
  • Actively support student success by identifying students who are struggling or need additional assistance, communicating concerns as appropriate, and motivating students who are performing well.
  • Willingness to assume instructional-related responsibilities and leadership roles beyond the classroom such as mentoring adjuncts, serving as lead instructor, and serving on committees.
  • Maintain accurate records of student grades and progress ensuring confidentiality of student records.
  • Comply with college assessment practices by evaluating and reporting student learning through defined college processes.
  • Maintain regular availability for student assistance during class time, host weekly student support hours outside of class time and consistent with college policies, and be available Monday-Friday during contracted business hours.
  • Engage in professional development activities.
  • Represent the technical education programs at community events, career fairs, and other outreach and recruitment activities to promote the program and engage with potential students.
  • Comply with all College and Program policies while maintaining professional conduct.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary for the function of the college.
