About The Position

Kiewit Technology Group's Transformation Acceleration Group (TAG) is hiring a Technical Lead to help design and deliver AI-powered enterprise applications across Kiewit’s district portfolio. This role is ideal for a developer who has outgrown pure implementation and is ready to think at the systems level — shaping how applications are structured, how they integrate, and how AI can be leveraged to accelerate delivery. You’ll work alongside senior architects while building your own architectural instincts through hands-on design and mentorship.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience in AI engineering and 10+ years of overall work experience.
  • Knowledge of software engineering best practices including source control, CI/CD, and automated testing.
  • Strong fundamentals in distributed systems, API design, and cloud-native architecture.
  • Experience with Azure or AWS cloud services (compute, identity, networking, storage).
  • Proficiency in at least two of: React/TypeScript, Python, C#/.NET.
  • Demonstrated curiosity about AI/ML: prompt engineering, LLM integration, agent patterns, or model evaluation.
  • Strong critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills, with a willingness to share ideas and collaborate.
  • Growth mindset — eagerness to learn from senior architects and continuously expand your skills.
  • Regular, reliable attendance.
  • Work productively and meet deadlines timely.
  • Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment.
  • Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
  • Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines.
  • May work at various different locations and conditions may vary.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing multi-service architectures (microservices, event-driven, or modular monolith patterns).
  • Familiarity with Azure Container Apps, Entra ID, Bicep, and API Management.
  • Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools (Claude, Copilot, Cursor).
  • Exposure to agentic AI patterns: tool use, multi-agent orchestration, function calling.
  • Azure certifications (AZ-204, AZ-305) or equivalent cloud architecture training.
  • Experience in construction technology, industrial systems, or regulated industries.

Responsibilities

  • Help design, build, and optimize AI-systems and solutions that advance our digital capabilities and create real value for districts.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a multidisciplinary team.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify district opportunities and AI use cases.
  • Translate abstract business problems into concrete, innovative AI solutions.
  • Drive code quality, robust architecture, and documentation within technical teams.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing, peer reviews, and upskilling within the AI team.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Stay current on Azure services, AI tooling, and industry patterns — and share learnings with the team.
  • Help evaluate third-party tools and services for fit within Kiewit’s enterprise constraints.

Benefits

  • top-tier medical, dental and vision plans covering eligible employees and dependents
  • voluntary wellness and employee assistance programs
  • life insurance
  • disability
  • retirement plans with matching
