About The Position

AMERICAN SYSTEMS, an employee-owned federal contractor, is seeking a Technical Intern 2 for a summer internship supporting NASA’s innovative aerospace research and flight missions at the Armstrong Flight Research Center (AFRC) at Edwards Air Force Base, California. This is an exciting opportunity for college students to gain hands-on experience, work alongside experienced engineers and technical professionals, and contribute to real-world projects that advance the future of aviation and aerospace innovation.

Requirements

Must be a U.S. citizen.
Must be able to work 100% on-site at Edwards AFB, California.
Must have a high school diploma and be currently enrolled in college or have 3–4 years of college coursework completed, or equivalent related work experience.
Must have a basic understanding of engineering principles and systems engineering processes.
Must be able to apply standard methods and approaches while demonstrating initiative, problem-solving skills, and sound judgment.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with NASA personnel, AFRC partners, aircraft technicians, and multidisciplinary engineering teams on real-world aerospace projects.
Perform a variety of assigned tasks under the direct guidance of experienced professionals in areas such as engineering, software development, database management, and security analysis.
Support Flight Instrumentation and System Integration Engineers with the design, integration, and testing of hardware, software, avionics, power, and instrumentation systems that enable safe and successful flight operations.
Assist with technical problem-solving efforts to address complex engineering challenges and support the development of next-generation flight technologies.
Gain hands-on experience applying classroom knowledge to mission-driven projects in a dynamic research and flight test environment.
Contribute to technical activities, documentation, analysis, and system support efforts that help advance aerospace innovation.
