About The Position

Performs initial, random, and final inspections on vehicles/equipment submitted for repair or services and shall determine that all repairs do not exceed maintenance expenditure limits (MEL) established by applicable equipment technical bulletins or by a local policy prior to work being initiated. Must possess the skills and knowledge of maintenance and repair activities on various vehicles and pieces of equipment including but not limited to heavy equipment, tactical and non-tactical heavy-duty trucks, semi-tractors, KALMARs and material handling equipment, i.e., 4000lb to a 40 Ton Forklifts, M4Ks, Atlas M270s, Dozers (D7G), graders, Heavy Duty Agricultural Equipment, compressors, air compressors, and ground support equipment, generators, water/hydraulic pumps, electrical systems, fuel and exhaust systems.

Requirements

  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have at least five years of experience in the inspection area of military equipment.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience and excellent understanding of mechanical equipment and theory of operation of cranes, tactical vehicles, electrical systems, generators, automotive, HVAC maintenance and other heavy equipment, vehicle repair, electrical, heating systems and diesel maintenance.
  • Must be U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to maintain proper a valid driver's license.
  • Working knowledge of GCSS-Army.
  • Practical knowledge of a wide range of established maintenance policies and processes, and the ability to apply a variety of common methods and techniques to analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of these various maintenance programs.
  • Ability to identify needed remedies or improvements and recommend solutions.
  • Must be able to perform all the tasks not exclusive of those described in the job description section.
  • Must be proficient in the use of computers and MS Office Software.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and explain instructions, letters, memos, emails, and correspondence from inside the organization as well as from external sources.
  • Ability to effectively respond, communicate and present information to customers, internal and external, clients and other employees in the organization.
  • Ability to interpret instructions and information and explain to others in the performance of this job in English.

Responsibilities

  • Performs initial, random, and final inspections on vehicles /equipment submitted for repair or services and shall determine that all repairs do not exceed maintenance expenditure limits (MEL) established by applicable equipment technical bulletins or by a local policy prior to work being initiated.
  • Conducts Initial Inspection process, accurately estimating maintenance labor hours required and parts / materials costs.
  • Enters data into Logistics Information System (LIS) supporting Maintenance prior to proceeding with repairs.
  • Uses TM MAC times, MWO/TB/STIR estimated times, engineered standards, regulatory standards, historical data, or other methods approved by the IMMO to estimate labor hours.
  • Updates the estimated hours to complete the maintenance action in the LIS. Performs ECOD’s as requested.
  • Conducts technical inspections on all equipment and Army Owned vehicles presented for turn-in, serviceability check, lateral transfer, or in-processing of new equipment into the Army inventory in accordance with AR 750-1 and AR 725-50 to determine condition code.
  • Provides reports, evaluations, and technical exhibits for vehicles / equipment. Performs vehicle / equipment classifications and maintains the reference library.
  • Inspects vehicle / equipment to include but not limited to all heavy and light wheeled vehicles, trailers, shelters, fuel and water tanks and accessory equipment and attachments.
  • Operates and inspects machines, vehicles, and equipment to diagnose defects.
  • Uses technical manuals, bulletins, and written directives in the performance of all inspections.
  • Examines parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges.
  • Diagnoses vehicle / equipment problems to include engines, transmissions, and drive train to verify faults.
  • Orders required repair parts using appropriate parts manuals.
  • Test overhauled equipment to insure operating efficiency.
  • Performs estimated cost of damage (ECOD) inspections and verifies condition codes.
  • Performs initial acceptance of items on work requests, and verifies serial numbers and problems identified as well as performing final inspections IAW applicable TMs and TBs ensuring work has been completed in agreement with the work request.
  • Performs test drives when necessary.
  • All work is accomplished IAW with the applicable Army regulations, DA PAMs, Technical Manuals, Technical Bulletins, and Repair Manuals.
  • Applies technical knowledge to perform inspections on material handling equipment (MHE), ground support equipment, tactical and non-tactical wheeled vehicles/trailers, tracked vehicles and construction/engineer equipment, that includes, but not limited to, body, chassis, hull, power train, drive train, suspension, track, and automotive, armor, electrical, fire suppression, electronic, braking, steering and hydraulic systems.
  • Must be capable of giving and receiving instructions.
  • Must possess the skills of an equipment/vehicle technician.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
