About The Position

The Technical Estimator will analyze technical drawings, Bill of Materials (BOMs), and other documentation to prepare time and cost estimates for the aerospace, military, entertainment, and automotive industries. The role will analyze requests for quote (RQF) packages and work closely with a cross-functional team to develop quotes. The Technical Estimator will stay current with the electrical market and industry processes. This position is in Livonia, MI.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent electrical manufacturing cost and estimating experience in a low to medium volume shop environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
  • Knowledge of materials, electrical assembly processes, outside services, inspection requirements, and quality systems.
  • Computer skills with MS Office including Word, Excel, Teams, and using Excel based costing software.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be a reliable self-starter with the ability to multi-task, work in a team environment with faced paced activity and deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with CAD software
  • Ability to quote low-volume and medium to high-volume electrical harness packages.
  • Familiarity with IPC-A-620 standards.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze RFQ packages containing customer requirements, supplied electrical schematics, files, parts lists, and other data to determine feasibility, manufacturing, and inspection requirements.
  • Work closely with program management, purchasing personnel, engineering, and shop management to establish required cost data for electrical projects.
  • Identify required electrical components (connectors, terminals, PLCs, enclosures, etc.) and coordinate with vendors to obtain the best pricing.
  • Develop labor costing on all processes required, including wire processing, outside services, inspection, and assembly processes. These estimates will be used by management for purposes such as organizing and scheduling work and determining cost effectiveness of make versus buy analysis.
  • Identify potential supply chain hurdles or technical challenges that might impact project timelines or budgets.
  • Verify accuracy, completeness and finalize quote packages.
  • Display awareness of competitive markets and cutting-edge manufacturing and electrical processes.
  • Recommend design and process improvements to reduce costs and improve manufacturability.
  • Track variances between estimated cost and actual cost to evaluate the accuracy of the utilized quote.
