About The Position

Serves as an advanced technologist for an individual technology or set of technologies. Works closely with Technology management, senior Engineers, and support teams to implement and manage technical solutions that meet or exceed the organization’s current and future needs. Responsibilities may include infrastructure review, implementation, and design; creating support and architectural documentation, standards, and policies; and conducting analysis and testing. The role regularly and independently interacts with business partners at varying associate and management levels to clarify problems and opportunities and elicit business requirements. It coordinates vendor interactions and resources as needed, mentors and coaches less experienced staff, and reviews their documentation, proposals, and proposed changes. The position also maintains knowledge of Financial Services trends and technologies, industry best practices, Bank applications and systems, and vendor technologies and services used by the Bank. The employee is expected to adhere to Company risk and regulatory standards, policies, controls, and Risk Appetite; identify risk-related issues that need escalation; promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand; and maintain internal control standards, including timely implementation of applicable audit points and issues raised by external regulators. Other related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

Combined minimum of 6 years of higher education and/or work experience in systems design, management, and/or architecture.
Advanced technical, analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Advanced knowledge and expertise in industry and/or vendor technologies.
Ability to solicit, gather, document, and analyze system specifications and requirements.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Ability to use effective facilitation skills and techniques to elicit and review requirements from diverse stakeholders and groups.
Understanding of how supported technologies interact with other systems and services.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Effective influencing skills.

Strong knowledge of server/client and virtual technologies.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
Minimum 6 years of professional experience in a technical engineering position involving infrastructure design technologies, data management and interchange, system design, and/or development for complex applications.

Responsibilities

Implement and manage the design, development, and execution of technical solutions with Technology management, senior Engineers, and support teams.
Review, implement, and design infrastructure; create support and architectural documentation, standards, and policies; and perform analysis and testing.
Interact with business partners to clarify problems and opportunities and elicit business requirements.
Coordinate vendor interactions and vendor resources as needed.
Mentor and coach less experienced engineers, technicians, and integrators.
Review documentation, proposals, and proposed changes from less experienced staff.
Continuously expand knowledge of Financial Services trends, practices, and technologies.
Follow and promote industry best practices, standards, and procedures.
Maintain working knowledge of Bank applications, systems, and development environments, and detailed understanding of vendor technologies and services used by the Bank.
Adhere to Company risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.
Identify risk-related issues requiring escalation to management.
Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of applicable internal and external audit points and issues raised by external regulators.
