About The Position

The Technical Director will be responsible for directing newscasts using a VizRT Vectar (NewTek TriCaster) via a NewsMaker NewsCaster production automation system. This role involves technical directing, graphics, cameras, and automated execution of newscast elements. The Technical Director will also program the production automation system to adapt newscast formatting over time, design graphics adhering to brand standards, and collaborate with the producer to establish newscast pace and segment sequencing. Ensuring smooth live broadcasts, handling last-minute changes professionally, maintaining studio lighting, keeping the studio functional and clean, and assisting the News Department with tasks like video editing, shooting, or digital content updates are key responsibilities. The role requires reporting to work on time and working established schedules, including occasional weekend shifts.

Requirements

  • Possess knowledge of transmission, broadcasting, switching, control, and operations of television systems.
  • Must be flexible and able to deal with unexpected show changes calmly.
  • Experience with studio lighting and using industry standard lighting techniques.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience directing live newscasts in an automated environment.
  • Graphic design experience.
  • Knowledge of Adobe After Effects.

Responsibilities

  • Direct newscasts using a VizRT Vectar (NewTek TriCaster) via a NewsMaker NewsCaster production automation system.
  • Program the production automation system to facilitate changes in newscast formatting.
  • Design graphics for newscasts and adhere to design standards.
  • Establish the pace of newscasts and sequences of segments with the producer.
  • Ensure programs run smoothly during live broadcasts.
  • Handle last-minute and unexpected changes during live broadcasts professionally and calmly.
  • Communicate calmly, quickly, and clearly to all involved parties during live broadcasts.
  • Maintain adequate studio lighting levels and work with the Brand Manager to light new sets or make changes to existing sets.
  • Keep the studio functional and clean.
  • Assist the News Department with tasks such as video editing, shooting, or updating digital content.
  • Report to work on time and work established schedule/hours, including occasional weekend shifts.
