Technical Director - International Tax Services (ITS)
About The Position
CLA is seeking a Technical Director to join its International Tax Services team. The role contributes at the highest level in the industry and focuses on technical quality, compliance, and methodology, while providing client advisory, service advocacy, relationship development, and leadership. The Technical Director advises clients on international business challenges, from entering international markets to optimizing existing international structures and implementing efficient cross-border transactions. The role also supports the national team through complex reviews, consultation, and planning; leads engagement teams; and provides technical instruction. Mentoring and developing associates and seniors from technical and career perspectives is preferred.
Requirements
- At least 10 years of relevant experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA certification required; EA or JD may be accepted in lieu of CPA certification.
- Deep technical knowledge of international tax and foreign and U.S. tax law.

Responsibilities
- Serve clients effectively and demonstrate command of international tax matters.
- Advise clients on international business challenges, including entering international markets, optimizing existing international structures, and implementing efficient cross-border transactions.
- Maintain deep technical skills and current knowledge of foreign and U.S. tax laws.
- Manage engagements and promote operational excellence.
- Research and resolve client international tax issues, including foreign tax credit planning, mergers and acquisitions, repatriation of earnings, treaty analysis, and export sales incentives.
- Support the national team with complex reviews, consultation, and planning.
- Lead engagement teams and provide technical instruction.
- Manage client relationships and engagement metrics.
- Mentor and develop associates and seniors from a technical and career perspective (preferred).
