Technical Director - International Tax Services (ITS)
About The Position
CLA is seeking a Technical Director to join its International Tax Services team. The role contributes at the highest level in the industry and emphasizes client advisory, service advocacy, relationship development, and leadership. It is highly specialized, with a focus on technical quality, compliance, and methodology. The Technical Director advises clients on international tax matters and international business challenges, from entering international markets to optimizing existing structures and implementing efficient cross-border transactions. The role also supports the national team with complex reviews, consultation, and planning; leads engagement teams; provides technical instruction; and manages client relationships and engagement metrics.
Requirements
- At least 10 years of relevant experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA certification required; an EA or JD may be accepted in lieu of CPA certification.
- Deep technical knowledge of international tax and foreign and U.S. tax law.

Responsibilities
- Serve clients on international tax matters with a high level of impact and technical command.
- Advise on international business challenges, including entering international markets, optimizing international structures, and implementing cross-border transactions.
- Maintain current knowledge of foreign and U.S. tax laws.
- Research client international tax issues and apply solutions in foreign tax credit planning, mergers and acquisitions, repatriation of earnings, treaty analysis, and export sales incentives.
- Manage engagements and promote operational excellence.
- Support the national team with complex reviews, consultation, and planning.
- Lead engagement teams and provide technical instruction.
- Manage client relationships and engagement metrics.
- Mentor and develop associates and seniors from a technical and career perspective (preferred).
