About The Position

The Technical Director coordinates and supervises technical operators during newscasts and other live and recorded productions. The role directs camera and video staff on picture composition, serves as a liaison between engineering and production, and works with news producers to deliver clean, high-energy newscasts. The Technical Director also trains camera and CG operators, switches video sources while providing direction during live broadcasts, tests equipment, assists with digital content production, and performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma.
• Fluency in English.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Minimum two years’ experience in news operations and production, depending on market size.
• Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines, and other office equipment.
• Proficiency with broadcast control equipment.
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the efforts of technical operators during newscasts and other live and recorded productions.
• Supervise and assign duties to workers engaged in technical control and program production.
• Observe pictures through monitors and direct camera and video staff concerning composition.
• Act as a liaison between engineering and production departments.
• Work with news producers to deliver clean, high-energy newscasts.
• Train camera and CG operators on proper operation during live broadcasts.
• Switch video sources and provide direction during live broadcasts.
• Test equipment to ensure proper operation.
• Assist in producing digital content.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
