About The Position

The Department of Theatre and Dance at Cornell College seeks a staff Lecturer in Theatre and Dance beginning in August 2027. The Technical Director is responsible for technical direction and sound design for all departmental productions and teaches three courses annually. Additional design work may be available, with additional compensation depending on availability and expertise. This is a full-time, ten-month appointment. The department seeks individuals committed to excellence and innovation in undergraduate education. Cornell’s One Course At A Time calendar consists of eight 3½-week blocks, during which students take and faculty teach one course. The calendar supports interdisciplinary interests, innovative teaching strategies, and off-campus learning. Class sizes are limited to 25 students, and upper-level courses are often smaller. Cornell College is a national liberal arts college committed to excellence in teaching and to a welcoming, inclusive community. Its curriculum emphasizes writing, quantitative reasoning, intercultural literacy, and experiential learning. The college is located in Mount Vernon, Iowa, in the Cedar Rapids–Iowa City corridor.

Requirements

MFA in Theatre Production and Technology or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Demonstrated proficiency in technical direction and sound design.
Organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Technical writing skills and strong interpersonal communication skills.
Experience with AutoCAD systems.
Ability to lift 50 pounds above the head.
Ability to work comfortably at grid and loading-rail height, approximately 65 feet.

Nice To Haves

Degree in Technical Direction strongly preferred.
Experience with analog and digital sound systems is desirable.
