POSITION SUMMARY: The primary focus of this position will be to utilizing computer‐aided design software and/or drafting equipment to create 2D or 3D drawings, blueprints, schematics, and related technical renderings. The Technical Design Engineer will create detailed drawings to capture scales, processes, dimensions, topography, angles, and other pertinent engineering information utilizing knowledge of engineering principles and applicable government regulations. This role will also develop drawings from notes, sketches, existing drawings, design concepts, verbal instructions, and/or engineering specifications, as well as document updates to design and ensure that any changes are recorded and prepared in accordance with engineering change procedures. The Technical Design Engineer will also be Concept Realization face of the project, this individual will be responsible for Leading and Guiding team members for project deliverables. The TDL will attend all project meetings that include, Customer kickoff meetings, OPS Design kickoff meetings, SDW’s, Pre Sales and OPS assessment site visits.

Requirements

  • Two-year engineering and/or drafting degree or high school diploma with five years of relevant experience
  • Five years’ experience with AutoCAD or equivalent
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products, particularly Word and Excel
  • Proficiency in Demo 3D
  • Experience in standard design of relevant material handling equipment and general operational knowledge of distribution centers with a focus on automation design
  • Knowledge of technical feasibilities of commonly used technology
  • Ability to improve concept layouts with regards to achieve economic use of materials
  • Willingness to expand knowledge of industry best practices and latest innovations in the industry
  • Strong organizational, time management and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate in English at a conversational level
  • Able to travel occasionally both nationally and internationally
  • Ability to perform essential functions of the job

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in preparation of layout design drawings for logistic solutions
  • AutoCAD 2D, 3D, Inventor or equivalent design package
  • Demo 3D

Responsibilities

  • Serve as layout creation expert during the operations design phase
  • Provide high quality 2D and 3D drawings and support the creation of solutions with feasible layouts
  • Demo 3D with catalog creation, fly throughs and animations
  • Mark possible obstructions in layouts between building or MHE elements
  • Provide master layouts out of different supplier and building drawings from different sections
  • Preparation of the drawings in the Fortna standard based on layers and representation of the technical elements
  • Regular tracking of drawing tools on the market
  • Creation of drawings and assets for best practice solutions in 2D and 3D for a library, utilizing current design practices for material handling systems
  • Adhering to all Fortna and department standards and helping to improve them
  • Attending and documenting all required meetings
  • Maintaining good design notes
  • Attending company training as required
  • Travel to be at or above 35% of yearly time
