Specialty Engineering - Technical Cost Management applies its unique and powerful combination of analytical and technical skills to increase RMS revenue and profit growth. Technical Cost integrates and synthesizes data from diverse sources to drive extraordinary business results. We exist to change the cost / value curve at RMS. This role requires the ability to drive 1-on-1 engagement with subject matter expert engineers; rapidly develop robust cost models that those engineers and their Integrated Product Teams can believe and use; learn new subject matter, often under time pressure; and build, document, and improve complex processes.

Requirements

  • Relevant Engineering or Technical Background – 3‑5 years of experience in any combination of Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Materials, Aerospace, or Systems Engineering, Procurement, Production Operations, Data Analytics, Data Science, or related disciplines.
  • Cost‑Modeling Software Proficiency – Demonstrated ability to learn and apply manufacturing knowledge to build complex cost‑modeling using tools such as SEER or TruePlanning.
  • CAD & Engineering Drawing Literacy – Familiarity with CAD platforms (Creo, CATIA V5, 3DX/CATIA V6) and the capacity to interpret engineering drawings/blueprints.
  • Microsoft Office Suite Mastery – Advanced use of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint for analysis, documentation, and presentation.
  • Data‑Driven Decision Making – Proven experience conducting data analysis and making recommendations using Excel, MATLAB, Tableau, or comparable tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced engineering / systems thinking Ability to visualize complex systems, assess second‑ and third‑order effects, and apply quantitative reasoning.
  • Statistical expertise Strong grasp of descriptive statistics; experience on projects with significant statistical components.
  • Accounting knowledge Understanding of overhead allocation and cost‑allocation principles; coursework or experience in accounting/business administration is a plus.
  • Information‑management proficiency Experience structuring, presenting, or designing information (e.g., UI/UX, library/information science).
  • Qualitative‑data capability Background in disciplines such as history, anthropology, or sociology that involve synthesizing large volumes of qualitative information.
  • Has strong customer relationship building skills.
  • Has an understanding of non-recurring material, labor and sustainment costs.
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of manufacturing technologies and processes.
  • Has a strong understanding of commodity pricing.
  • Knowledge of how to interpret engineering data.
  • Knowledge of cost modeling software.
  • Previous experience developing cost modeling algorithms.

Responsibilities

  • Build and document models that accurately forecast many different types of costs for RMS’ products, based on the data that you collect; [create detailed, accurate, and supported financial models, 25%]
  • Write documentation that explains your models, consistently document process, and create audience-appropriate presentations; [communicate clearly and concisely, 15%]
  • Make your (and your team members’) cost models accessible to others by building and testing prototypes (in Excel or another tool) of web interfaces; [Digitally transform your and the team’s work, 15%]
