About The Position

The Seethapathi Motor Control Group at MIT is seeking a Technical Associate I to assist in conducting experiments focused on human locomotor control and neuromechanics. This role involves developing and pursuing collaborative research projects, participating in all lab activities, and supporting research teams in setting up and operating human experiments with physiological measurement systems. Responsibilities include evaluating joint kinematics and kinetics, muscle activity and strain patterns, and whole-body metabolic energy consumption. The position may also involve data analysis and methodological development, and extensive collaboration with graduate students and postdoctoral researchers to support their thesis projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Sciences.
  • A minimum of two years of research experience, which can include work from undergraduate experience if related to the job (lab work).
  • Interest in conducting human movement experiments.
  • Interest in operating and maintaining research equipment for human motor control including motion capture systems, force plates, electromyography systems, and indirect calorimeters.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating Vicon Nexus motion capture systems and instrumented treadmill.
  • Familiarity with multi-modal physiological signal measurement techniques.
  • Experience with Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval processes.
  • Demonstrated hands-on ability to maintain and troubleshoot lab equipment.
  • Competence in programming languages such as MATLAB or Python.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with internal cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Demonstrated strong performance in a previous similar role.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in conducting experiments focused on human locomotor control and neuromechanics.
  • Develop and pursue collaborative research projects.
  • Participate in all lab activities.
  • Support research teams in setting up and operating human experiments with physiological measurement systems (e.g., motion capture, force platforms, electromyography, indirect calorimetry, eye gaze tracking).
  • Evaluate joint kinematics and kinetics, muscle activity and strain patterns, and whole-body metabolic energy consumption.
  • Possibly be responsible for data analysis and methodological development.
  • Collaborate extensively with graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, providing technical assistance to support their thesis projects.
