About The Position

Under general supervision, the Technical Assistant –Benefits provides administrative and technical support to the Human Resources Division with a primary focus on employee benefits processing, documentation, and customer service. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate benefit records, completing timely updates related to enrollments and changes, and ensuring benefit information is correctly reflected in the Human Resources Information System (HRIS). The position requires strong attention to detail, confidentiality, and the ability to manage high volumes of benefit-related data and communication.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Excellent accuracy, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Strong communication and customer service abilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in business, HR, or related field preferred.
  • Prior experience in employee benefits, HR support, or office administration strongly preferred.
  • Experience with benefit administration platforms or HRIS systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Process benefit enrollments, changes, qualifying life events, and terminations.
  • Assist with auditing benefit data regularly to ensure accuracy across HRIS, carrier portals, and internal records.
  • Maintain benefit documentation, forms, notices, and communications.
  • Respond to employee questions regarding medical, dental, vision, life insurance, retirement, and other benefit programs; escalate complex inquiries to appropriate HR staff.
  • Prepare and support activities related to annual open enrollment, including verifying employee elections, organizing materials, and ensuring accurate documentation.
  • Enter and update benefit-related information in the HRIS ensuring changes are properly reflected.
  • Perform data audits focused on benefit fields, eligibility, and enrollment status.
  • Ensure HRIS benefit records match carrier systems by identifying and resolving variances; escalate complex variances to appropriate HR staff.
  • Monitor shared HR in boxes for benefit-related inquiries and direct items appropriately.
  • Maintain personnel files and electronic benefit records in compliance with retention and privacy requirements.
  • Assist with onboarding by preparing benefit packets, entering initial benefit choices, and verifying eligibility.
  • Perform administrative tasks including scanning, filing, and organizing benefit materials.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of employee benefit and personal information.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
