Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. This role focuses on providing coaching, mentorship, and hands-on technical support across Data Architecture, Data Engineering, Data Platform Development, Cloud Infrastructure Development, and Data Science. It involves guiding peers to build technical capability, troubleshoot challenges, and grow confidence within these domains through active knowledge sharing and practical, on-the-ground support, while also contributing specialized development expertise as needed. The Data Platform team provides solutions for designing and deploying Data and Cloud Infrastructure reliably, dynamically, and securely. The Data ecosystem includes, but is not limited to, Azure, Databricks, Github, Data Warehouses, ETL, Data Pipelines, Advanced Analytics, Reporting, and Data Analytics and Visualization. The capability is critical to enable the at-scale delivery of foundational technologies and cloud infrastructure solutions that underpin enterprise and customer solutions.

Requirements

  • Completion of a degree in Engineering or Computer Science, or a related discipline – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent
  • Demonstrated years of experience in Software development, as a Technical Lead, Senior Software Engineer, Project leader
  • Strong interpersonal and oral/written/presentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement end-to-end data architectures, including Delta Lake and medallion (bronze/silver/gold) models.
  • Act as a frontline technical expert and technical support for the Data Platform. Conduct live debugging sessions, log analysis, and root cause investigations with Business.
  • Lead Unity Catalog architecture and implementation, including: Catalog, schema, and workspace design, Fine-grained access control (RBAC/ABAC), Data lineage, auditing, and compliance enforcement.
  • Lead Data Observability by monitoring alerts, logs, cost and overall health of cloud ecosystem. Be an expert of the cloud by understanding the data operations.
  • Coach and support delivery teams by providing technical expertise, design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation, with full technical knowledge of all phases of applications systems analysis and development.
  • Monitor and optimize platform cost and resource usage, including compute efficiency, job tuning, cluster configuration, and workload optimization.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues across data pipelines, cloud infrastructure, performance, access controls, and system reliability.
  • Advise customers on performance tuning, cost optimization, and platform best practices.
  • Document reference architectures, monitoring patterns, governance models, and reusable implementation guides.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and hands-on technical support across Data Architecture, Data Engineering, Data Platform Development, Cloud Infrastructure Development, and Data Science.
  • Guide peers in building technical capability, troubleshooting complex challenges, and developing confidence in core data and cloud domains.
