About The Position

Hydro One is seeking a Technical Analyst to assist with computer support work for the appropriate line units in the Computer Operations Group. This role involves maintaining facility software, performing studies and evaluating new or modified software or hardware, and installing new vendor-supplied software or hardware products. The Technical Analyst will also design and write software programs to meet specific requirements, including programming, testing, documenting, and implementation. Additionally, they will participate in studies related to computer hardware or software efficiency and reliability, and liaise with vendors for product installation and problem resolution. The position may also involve periodic supervisory responsibilities of a limited nature.

Requirements

  • Requires a knowledge of computer science to gain an appreciation of design concepts provided by equipment manufacturers and to evaluate software and equipment for varying Hydro One requirements.
  • Requires a knowledge of the application principles of data processing equipment, methods and systems analysis and synthesis, work simplification, communications, and large-scale computer programming concepts.
  • Requires a level of education which will enable creative logical reasoning in regard to the design of systems, computer programming activities, and related matters.
  • Requires experience to become familiar with Hydro One computer community, organization, role of the division and of the Computer Support Department and with related computer hardware, software, standards, procedures, systems, practices, work routines and schedules.
  • Requires added experience to establish a working relationship with users of the services and other contacts, and to become familiar with all of the responsibilities of the job.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain less complex facility software, such as compilers and utilities, by diagnosing problems, applying corrections, generating new versions, adjusting parameters, and making modifications to improve performance and simplify use.
  • Evaluate new or modified hardware and software, participating in studies to determine applicability and adaptability of hardware products and software packages, and contributing to recommendations.
  • Install new vendor-supplied hardware and software products, including selecting parameters, generating, testing, and implementing.
  • Design and write software programs to meet specific requirements, including programming, testing, documenting, and implementation.
  • Provide functional direction to shift supervisors or appropriate line supervisors during extraordinary situations like major equipment outages or implementations.
  • Provide information, education, training, and assistance to other units in the use of computer software, hardware, and selected services, and coordinate the solution of technical problems.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of designated portions of computer facilities, participate in studies relating to efficiency and reliability, recommend changes to improve system effectiveness, and notify the Supervisor of potential or existing problem areas.
  • Participate in studies relating to computer hardware or software requirements, efficiency, and reliability.
  • Liaise with vendors of software and hardware regarding product installation and problem resolution.
  • Exercise periodic supervisory responsibility of a limited nature where others have been delegated to assist with assignments, work projects, or other requirements, including assigning work and checking for quality, accuracy, and productivity.
  • Perform other duties as required.
