About The Position

Conducts hearings and participates in informal conferences on complaints arising under the law within area of responsibility. Assembles the evidence, prepares and presents the written complaint and all pleadings. After decision by the committees/boards, presents the committee's/board's written report of Findings and Recommendations to the Director. Recommends referral of unlicensed practice cases to be prosecuted by sister enforcement agencies to the appropriate county and presents the case to the State's Attorney or Attorney General’s Office or other enforcement authority to institute criminal proceedings. Prepares the Department Record and Answer in mandamus actions brought against the Department under the acts within area of responsibility. Consults with attorneys, members of the public, law enforcement officials, and other interested parties regarding the application of the licensing laws within area of responsibility and the Rules and Regulations promulgated there under. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Requirements

  • Requires graduation from a recognized law school.
  • Requires the possession of a valid license to practice law in Illinois.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefers at least five years of litigation experience conducting trials or evidentiary hearings in state court, federal court, or administrative hearings.
  • Prefers at least five years of experience with judicial and quasi-judicial procedure, the rules of evidence, administrative hearings, and trial procedure, specifically relating to professional licensing, cannabis regulations, or regulatory laws.
  • Prefers at least five years of experience acquiring extensive knowledge of state and federal laws, specifically relating to administrative and regulatory functions.
  • Prefers at least three years of experience managing and maintaining individual case load.
