About The Position

Provides technical scrub skills in the operating room during surgical procedures and assists surgical team as needed in any other capacity, according to established procedures. The successful candidate must be energetic and highly motivated to support the success of Saint Louis University Hospital.

Requirements

  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) Or Tech in Surgery - Certified - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) Or National Registered Surgical Technician (NRST) - American Allied Health Association (AAH)

Nice To Haves

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Prior OR experience or graduation from an approved surgical technician program

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates professionalism when working

  • Practices universal precautions and disposes of hazardous wastes per established guidelines
  • Maintains a safe, clean, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families/employees in accordance with hospital standards
  • Maintains clutter free environment
  • Keeps conversations and background noise to a minimum
  • Adheres to dress code
  • Reports risk management concerns
  • Assumes responsibility for completing all annual mandatory requirements: Safety/Fire, Blood Borne Pathogen, Hazardous Communication, TB, Department Specific, Age Appropriate Care
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner
  • Provides service excellence to the customers of Saint Louis University Hospital by delivering timely, high quality care in a courteous, and respectful manner

  • Provides position specific care for Neonate/Infant, including keeping safe and total dependence on caregiver
  • Provides position specific care for Child, including explaining procedures in understood language, comforting, maintaining quiet atmosphere during anesthesia, providing warmed blankets, and utilizing appropriate equipment/instrumentation
  • Provides position specific care for Adolescent, including involving patient in discussion and maintaining privacy/confidentiality
  • Provides position specific care for Adult, including culturally specific care, maintaining privacy/confidentiality, utilizing appropriate equipment/instrumentation, and maintaining a safe environment
  • Provides position specific care for Geriatric, including respectful address, providing warmed blankets, protecting skin, and involving patient in planning/discharge
