About The Position

Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to perform district/area learning community based duties associated with providing technical assistance in the installation of software, networks, and personal computers. Employees in this classification function at an operational capacity and perform a variety of duties including troubleshooting, technical support, training functions, as well as web page and mainframe maintenance and design. This position also serves as a technical resource for district departments or schools within their assigned learning community. Performs related work as directed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or closely related field
  • Minimum five (5) years previous experience and/or training that includes mainframe, network, or web page maintenance and design
  • Any equivalent combination of related education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to internal and external customers in a timely, accurate, courteous and empathetic manner representing OCPS in a positive light.
  • Sets up and installs client workstations to network fileservers, the internet, or computer system; installs new computers, monitors, printers, scanners, and peripherals.
  • Schedules site visits to perform minor maintenance on computers and printers; diagnoses, tracks, and troubleshoots hardware and software problems through diagnostic testing; initiates problem-solving methods where necessary.
  • Evaluates existing hardware; develops and prepares needs analysis documents for district departmental clients to purchase hardware/software efficiently for administrative technology plans.
  • Influences the establishment of district standards in hardware/software procurement through meetings with authorized vendors to research and evaluate products; follows current technological trends; appraises for competitive pricing.
  • Implements any technology related project affecting the client workstations at the district or learning community level.
  • Installs, upgrades, and configures new software, as well as network and device drivers for new or existing computers; tracks and inventories software.
  • Provides computer software application training to schools and district level personnel; schedules and holds training classes for e-mail, internet, and other software applications; configures e-mail for staff.
  • Maintains site-based networks, computer labs, and mainframes; installs and maintains servers.
  • Conducts computer training classes; creates computer training schedule; creates computer security records, memorandums, and help screens.
  • Creates and maintains web sites for schools and districts; updates information on web page and other on-line information.
  • Operates a computer to enter, retrieve, review, or modify data; utilizes word processing, database, and software programs.
  • Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by OCPS.
  • With the support of the district, attends training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate information they maintain as part of their job responsibilities.
