About The Position

The Enterprise Technology & Security Summer Internship Program is a critical program within Enterprise Technology & Security Services that helps passionate early career professionals gain real-world exposure to groundbreaking technology. This Internship program begins in late May 2027, and will be based out of one of our headquarters in Johnston, RI, Phoenix, AZ, or Plano, TX. Technology Risk Interns work collaboratively with Technology Risk teams to pursue a broad range of initiatives. By using technical skills and an inquisitive mind, interns will help build a well-controlled operating environment that is sustainable, scalable, and efficient utilizing a data first mindset, with high skilled resources, and streamlined processes to proactively identify, manage and measure risk. In this 10-week program, interns will gain a strong understanding of Cloud Services at Citizens. This program also provides mentorship, exposure to senior leadership, and participation in a variety of activities to further develop professional skills, including: Orientation and networking with all ETS interns, Professional development workshops (such as Personal Branding and Communicating with Impact), Social activities (such as sporting events and a bank-wide intern BBQ), Dedicated community service activities. High-performing interns interested in pursuing a career within Enterprise Technology & Security may be extended an offer to return as a Full-time colleague in our Enterprise Technology & Security Development Program (ETSDP) upon graduation. The ETSDP is a full-time program that helps rising professionals build a meaningful career within software, network/systems, data or cloud engineering, technology risk and security.

Requirements

  • Successfully complete a video interview assessment within 4 days of receiving the link. If not completed within the timeframe, your application will be automatically withdrawn from consideration.
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Information Security and Assurance, Computer Science, Software Development or other technology-related degree.
  • Expected graduation date of May 2028
  • Minimum GPA 3.0.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in a team environment, strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Permanent work authorization in the United States is required. This position is not eligible for CPT, OPT, or visa sponsorship, now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of or experience with coding languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, C++, SQL, etc.
  • Knowledge of or experience with Agile and Scrum methodologies, sprints, and Jira.
  • Knowledge of or experience with operating systems such as Linux, Windows, VMWare ESX.
  • Knowledge of or experience with Database technologies.
  • Cybersecurity and Cloud coursework or experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develop an understanding of aggregating and analyzing data from multiple sources (e.g., ServiceNow reports, GRC platforms, control testing outputs, incident data) to identify themes, trends, and emerging risk indicators across the ETS Risk portfolio.
  • Build analytical skills by helping translate data insights into actionable recommendations that support efforts to address control gaps, reduce risk exposure, and prioritize remediation activities.
  • Gain experience creating and maintaining reporting views, dashboards, and trend analyses that help surface risk signals to first line risk managers and stakeholders.
  • Build foundational knowledge of risk management practices through supporting evidence collection, documentation drafting and review, and stakeholder coordination across the ETS Risk portfolio.
  • Observe and participate in control testing, process walkthroughs, and risk assessments to strengthen your understanding of first line risk methodology, control design, and testing approaches.
  • Develop problem-solving skills by contributing to continuous improvement efforts, including opportunities to automate manual data pulls, streamline reporting workflows, and enhance the team's use of analytics tools.
  • Learn and apply AI tools through structured prompt engineering to support data analysis activities, such as synthesizing large datasets, identifying risk themes and anomalies, and drafting preliminary trend summaries for senior analyst review.
