About The Position

This position is responsible for utilizing the PACS system to transmit and print/burn CDs of patient imaging studies, transporting and assisting patients, and filing x-ray jackets. The role involves performing routine clerical duties such as preparing charts for Interventional procedures, obtaining and entering patient demographic and financial data into the computer, and providing necessary patient preparation for procedures. The Tech Assistant II also works with Radiologists and Nurses to schedule interventional cases, prepares and processes initial paperwork and identification bands, and schedules exams for multiple modalities. A friendly and professional phone voice is required. The role includes obtaining authorizations, providing necessary billing codes, assessing medical necessity for Medicare patients, and obtaining required signatures and copies of insurance cards, while adhering to regulations for Medicare Secondary Payer and the Three-day rule. The individual must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate patient care and may perform various duties depending on the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • High school education or GED.
  • Current BLS/Healthcare Provider status as per American Heart Association standards.
  • Two (2) to four (4) years of recent scheduling experience in PT/CT, Angio, CT, US, MRI, and x-ray.
  • Ability to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her unit.

Nice To Haves

  • Medical terminology is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules exams with MD office, including obtaining authorization and DI order, providing CPT codes, and obtaining ICD-9 codes for Medicare patients.
  • Interviews and pre-registers patients for various imaging modalities to obtain accurate demographic information and enters it into the computer system.
  • Provides patients with necessary preparation instructions for procedures and maintains contact with diabetic patients for daily glucose readings.
  • Registers, interviews, and screens patients into ITS and Meditech systems.
  • Coordinates child/adult sedation under anesthesiology with the surgery scheduling department and notifies DI and OR nurses.
  • Reviews DI orders for the following day to verify they coincide with the scheduled exam.
  • Enters x-ray, CT, US, MRI & PET/CT exams into the computer system and prepares charts for Interventional procedures.
  • Prepares all necessary paperwork, consents, questionnaires, and identification bands for the following day.
  • Prepares CT, US, PET/CT & MRI schedules for technologists and radiologists.
  • Greets, registers, and obtains necessary insurance and identification cards from patients.
  • Determines and enters patient’s primary and secondary payor information into the computer.
  • Initiates and explains all required documents, consents, and registration demographics with patients and obtains required signatures.
  • May transport patients by wheelchair, stretcher, or walking.
  • May assist patients by lifting and moving them on and off the x-ray table.
  • Answers all telephone calls promptly and courteously.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties such as filing of x-ray jackets and printing/burning CDs for patient imaging studies.
  • Assists physicians with viewing images on the PACS system.
  • Records all subpoenas and legal documentation for the Radiology Department.
  • Assists technologists with patient flow.
  • Scans in signed MD orders.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
