About The Position

To ensure the efficient operation of the facility by supervising staff, youth, activities, and security within the facility. Oversee the operation of a treatment or detention facility shift. Review, prepare, and compose documents and information relating to shift operations. Coordinate activities for juveniles.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent plus two years of work experience with troubled youth.
  • Minimum age requirement is 25 years old.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license from state of residence, and provide proof of such.
  • Must possess and maintain state mandated auto liability insurance and properly licensed/reliable vehicle, and provide proof of such.
  • Must be able to successfully pass physical exam/physical abilities performance test.
  • All candidates selected for employment will be subject to background screenings as part of the hiring process.
  • Certain positions may also require additional checks, including but not limited to education verification, child abuse and neglect clearances, drug screenings, and physical assessments, as applicable to the responsibilities of the role.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare various documents, both manual and electronic, related to the operation of a work shift, such as the performance of security and safety inspections, incident reports, and medication logs.
  • Review and complete all required staff reports, such as incident reports.
  • Ensure that information is relayed to both management and staff from other shifts to provide cohesive operations.
  • Act as a lead worker in providing staff with guidance, direction, and training in the performance of duties based on policies and procedures, and operational rules/protocols.
  • Delegate duties to be performed during the shift, such as suicide watches, and the dispensation of juvenile medications.
  • Ensure adequate staff coverage, which involves contacting and scheduling backup workers.
  • Ensure facility surroundings are safe and secure for residents and staff and take appropriate action to correct for report deficiencies.
  • Work scheduled assignments necessary to meet the court’s obligation to provide for the needs of juvenile residents, including mandatory overtime as required.
  • Supervise, monitor, and provide guidance to juvenile residents to ensure that the youth’s daily needs are met.
  • Interact and counsel with youth on an individual and group basis.
  • Intercede in and manage conflicts among staff, residents and visitors through established de-escalation techniques which may involve physical intervention and restraint.
  • Coordinate on and off-site recreational and leisure activities for juvenile residents.
  • Ensure that juveniles are transported as necessary for appointments.
  • Perform other duties as required.
